I was in the void again. I was laying on the ground. My whole body aching and throbbing. I groaned as my eyes fluttered open. "Time to wake up Jason" Jessie called out. "You've learned your lesson now..." Charlie added. I heard footsteps walk away from me. Straight ahead, I saw a bright white light. I began to crawl towards it. My arms barely working. My legs completely useless. "Home..." I whispered.
I crawled for an eternity. I knew this was it. No more Jessie... no more Charlie... I was feet away from the light. As my hand reached the white light, I heard faint voices "Jason's waking up!"
"Guys! guys! Jason's moving!" Followed by the shuffling of feet and more muffled chatter. I crawled into the light and I saw nothing white lights surrounding me. After a few moments. I saw people far away from me, farther in the light. I kept crawling and the people grew bigger and bigger. My siblings! My parents! My girlfriend! I can see them!I crawled out of the light. I was in the hospital. Surrounded by all those I love. My sister and my parents, my girlfriend. My body was broken. I groaned but through all the pain, I managed to smile "oh my Jason is awake!" My mother gently lays herself over me, giving me a gentle hug as she cried. "I missed you so much..." she whispered. My sister had tears in her eyes as well as she hugged my girlfriend. My father stood beside my mother. Rubbing her back and smiling at me "welcome back son..." I wasn't able to speak but I smiled at him. I looked to the right side of the bed and my beautiful girlfriend moved to my side and held onto my hand. My eyes widened and tears formed in my eyes as I looked at her. My mother got up and hugged my father, allowing my girlfriend, Lisa to hug me. She did so and I managed to wrap my arms around her. Finally... I'm home...
After many tears had been shed, the doctor came in "morning Jason. You're so lucky to be alive. You were hit by a drunk driver trying so save a little girl, and..."
"Jessie...?" I managed to choke out. The doctor looked shocked "why... yes... how did you know? Your family said you never met her before."
"I know of what happened..." my voice cracked as I spoke.I went on to explain what I had seen in my dreams and out of body experiences.
"Well There was little left of Jessie's face after you two got hit. Her face was torn up by the road as she skidded twenty or more feet face first. As for the clown, she had her favorite doll, Charlie with her when she was hit." The doctor told me. "And we constantly would hug you and tell you to wake up..." my mother added."Is... Jessie... still alive?" I hesitantly asked. Everyone looked at each other then back at me "she died on impact... there wasn't anything you do" the doctor said. I was silent for a long while "how long was I unconscious?" I asked "two months" my dad answered. My eyes widened. Two months? I felt like I was going through that hell for years... "and my injuries?" I asked the doctor "broken both legs, scraped up back, concussion, collapsed lung and broken ribs. You fared way better than Jessie... her little body just got completely crushed by the car." It took a long time for all of this to settle in. But I'm happy it was all over... I never have to worry about the void again...
I was later released after three more weeks in the hospital.
It's been two years since the crash. Jessie still haunts me to this day. I see her out of the corner of my eye or in my dreams. I can't forget about her, no matter how hard I try. I even went as far as apologizing to her parents. They were grateful that I tried to save their little girl. They weren't mad what so ever. But no matter what... I still feel like I failed her... but at least I'm awake now... in control of my own life... and no longer restless...
