It was a year since I had fallen down. I lived with the Dreemurrs, and now considered myself one as well. They had practically adopted me, treating me like their own child. Asriel was like my little brother, despite being but a year younger than me, and Asgore and Toriel were the best parents I had ever had.
It was Asgore's birthday, and Asriel and I wanted to make him a special surprise. We knew how much he loved mom's Butterscotch-Cinnamon pie, and so we decided to make one ourselves. We got out the recipe and began to gather everything we needed: Flour, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, eggs, and milk.
"Hey Chara! What does this say? It's all smudged." Asriel was pointing to the last ingredient in the list.
"I...I think it says... Forty... Buttercups? Yea. Forty buttercups."
"Are... you sure? That seems kinda strange."
"I'm sure! I'll go pick the flowers while you start on the crust. It can't be that hard. Mom does it all the time!"
I wandered out of the house and made my way to Dad's flower garden, the only place I knew of where Buttercups grew. There were so many there I was sure he wouldn't mind if a few went missing. After I had gathered all the flowers, I returned to the kitchen and we began on the filling.
By the time we had finished, the kitchen was a disaster, and the pie looked terrible, but I don't think Azzie and I had ever been so proud of anything we had done. We put the pie on the table and raced to the door, awaiting Dad's arrival. He was at the Royal Lab, checking in on the Royal Scientist's progress on a new way to break the barrier.
Soon, he was home. Asriel and I lead him excitedly to the table, making him keep his eyes closed the whole way there. We sat him in a chair and backed up.
"You can open your eyes now! SUPRISE!!!!"
Asgore opened his eyes and looked quite surprised at the pie in front of him. "Why... Thank you children...."
"We made it ourselves! Just for you!"
"So I guessed." His voice was a little dubious, but we didn't notice. Picking up a fork, he took a small bite. His face twitched a bit before he swallowed.
Asriel and I looked up at him expectantly. "How is it? Do you like it?"
"It's... It's wonderful children! I'll... I'll have a piece right now!" He cut a piece and we brought him a plate. He slowly ate each bite, as Asriel and I watched.
After he was done, it was time for dinner. Toriel had made Snail Soup and we all sat down to eat. The meal was delicious, but as it wore on, Dad began to sweat. He wasn't looking to good by the time we all finished.
We helped him to one of the armchairs by the fire and then sat down on the rug to draw. Not long had passed when all of a sudden, Dad groaned, tried to stand up, and fell over, clutching his stomach. "Oooooh..... Tor..ri... I don't... Feel... So... good..."
Mom jumped up from her armchair and hurried over from him. He was shaking and sweating, and when Mom looked up, she looked quite grim. "My children, help me carry your father to bed. He seems to have eaten something bad, and he must rest for my healing magic to help."

When Mom and us had finally gotten Dad to bed and she had used some of her healing magic to soothe him, she lead us out to the hall. "Now, it looks like your father ate something poisonous. Do you have any idea what it might have been?" She didn't look angry, just concerned.
"I don't know. The only thing we've given him is the pie."
"And what exactly was in that pie?"
"We just used your recipe Mom. Flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, eggs, milk, and buttercups."
"Buttercups?"
"Yea. Doesn't the recipe call for 40 buttercups?"
"Ohhh children.... Buttercups are deadly poisonous. You should never pick golden flowers unless you are like your father and can tell the difference well. My recipe calls for 4 cups of butter."
"Ohh..." Asriel and I let out small whimpers. "Will.. will Dad be ok?"
"I do not know children, I do not know."

It was late at night. Asriel and I were sitting on the floor outside of Dad's room. Mom had been in there all evening and was still in there, using her healing magic.
Asriel and I hadn't left our spots outside the door in hours, only standing to use the bathroom and once to grab the blanket we were now snuggled in.
The door creaked open and Mom tiptoed out. Beckoning to us, she lead us into the living room.
"Your father will be alright. He just needs to rest for a few days. Now, I know you didn't mean for this to happen, and we don't blame you. IT was an honest mistake. Just don't do things like this without one of us helping you, ok?"
"Alright. we're sorry..." Asriel and I hung our heads and apologized.
"Now, why don't you get some sleep." Mom took us into our room and tucked us each into our own beds.
"Goodnight children. Sleep well." Mom turned off the lights and soon Asriel was snoring softly. But I was still wide awake, thinking.A/n
