Light was filtering down from above. I was surrounded by golden flowers. I was... alive?
But how? I had DIED. I was dead. Gone. Deceased. And yet here I was.
I looked down to see another human in a bluish-purple sweater with a lavender stripe.
Their soul! Why could I see it? No matter. It's red, like mine! Determination!
The human stands up, and looks at the flowers.
"It seems like the flowers broke your fall. You're lucky. When I fell, there were no flowers."
Surprise is evident on the human's face. They look around, staring right past me. They turn in circles, passing me by several times.
"Hey, I'm right here! Can't you see me?"
The human jumps and whirls to face me, then tilts their head.
Then, confused they shake their head, no.
I look down, wanting to see my body for myself. It's nearly not there. Transparent.
What's happening? Why can't I see myself? Am...am I a... ghost?
"So... you can't see me at all?"
Another shake no.
"But you can hear me?" A tilt of their hand.
"Kind of?"
A yes. Then they tap their head.
"You hear my in your head, like a though, not as a voice?"
A yes.
"Well, I don't know why that is, but I suggest you get going. You'd better start towards New Home if you want to get to the surface again."
They nod, then begin to leave the room. All of a sudden, I am being dragged along behind them.
That's when it all snaps into place. I'm dead. I'm just a memory, a soul, brought back to life by this tiny human's determination.
I have a second chance. I won't let this slip by. I have to make things right. With Mom. With Dad. And most of all, with myself.
