Prologue
My eyes shoot open. “What was that noise?” I whisper to myself. A faint rustling noise was coming from downstairs in the kitchen. I quietly creep out of bed. I open my door with a creak and walk down the stairs. The soft carpet tickles my feet. I round the corner and look inside the kitchen, right into the blood-red eyes of my nightmare.
Chapter 1: Beginnings
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! I open my eyes and meet the morning sun glaring through my window. “Honey! Time for the first day of being a Year 13!” my mum called from downstairs.
“Uugghh,” I groan stuffing my pillow over my head. I slowly pull my feet out of bed. I sit up and rub the layer of sleep out of my eyes. I stand up and look in my wardrobe.
“What to wear today?” I ask myself. I pull out a white singlet and slip it on. I find a pair of cut-off denim shorts and pull them on, I put my hair up in a pony-tail and some hairclips. I find some make-up and throw some on. I run downstairs and slip on some jandals.
“See ya mum,” I say giving her a kiss. I open the front door and start walking to school.
I stand in front of the school doors. “Huuugh,” I breathe out. I grab the doorknob and push it open. I immediately get flooded with the loud noises of people talking and phones ringing. I walk down the hall looking for my friend. Once I see her she runs up to me and hugs me tightly.
”Merissa!” she squeals.
“Avalon! You don’t know how much I’ve missed you!” I exclaim when we let go.
“Right back at you!” Avalon says.
My friend has long jet-black hair and evenly tanned skin. She has high cheekbones and full red lips.
“Can’t you believe we’re seniors!” Avalon exclaims.
“I know! It’s amazi-,” I cut myself off as a handsome boy with golden-brown hair and pale skin walks through the door.
“Who’s that?” I ask quizzically.
“I don’t know,” Avalon replies looking past me.
For a few short seconds our eyes meet. I stare at him as if in a trance. He stares at me with his icy eyes until peeling them off me with a blink.
“Huh,” I sigh, I know I’m in love.
BRRIIINNGG! The school bell shoots me back into reality.
“Come on! We’re going to be late!” Avalon yells. She tugs at my arm, hard.
“Ow!” I scream, but reluctantly I follow her.
We push through the hustle and bustle of all the other kids.
“Move!” We yell.
We arrive at our classroom door and pull it open.
“Sorry we’re late,” I say. But as we enter the classroom we realize no one is there.
“Do we have the right class?” Avalon says turning around.
“Hello girls,” a deep voice says.
We turn around simultaneously. A tall slender man with dark hair and blue glasses is standing behind the desk at the front of the class.
“Where did he come from?” I whisper to Avalon.
“I don’t know, it’s like he just appeared,” she replies.
