I walked for days upon days upon days. Five days had past and I still hadn’t found civilisation of any kind, not a human soul, not a small rodent, nothing. But then in the distance I could see a faint splodge of black. I sped up into a run and then into a sprint. I arrived at the small town but stopped, my heart sank. The black that I saw was indeed the buildings like I thought, but the wrong way I thought. As far as the eye could see were the burnt out shells of buildings. I bent down and felt the ground—still warm. Whoever, or whatever did this had just recently came.
I walked around and came to a small cottage. I walked through the black door that hung on it’s hinges and into what seemed like a small lounge. I looked around. Crouched in a corner was a small cot. I walked over and immediately started to cry. Inside was the body of a woman. Her arms were wrapped around a baby, the baby held a teddy bear. I bent down and pulled the teddy bear from the limp arms. I hugged it tight just as the baby would have before. I held it in my hands and walked back out the door.
I looked around the rest of the town, I found things that would be handy for the road. One of them was the teddy bear. I would take it and cherish it in memory of what happened. I carried on through the village until I reached the very end.
My heart dropped further when I saw more and more bare landscape. But I had to carry on. I started to feel dizzy after about four hours, I started to hallucinate. I saw things that weren’t there. Like people, animals, food. But none of them were real. Suddenly my body couldn’t take it anymore, and I collapsed to the ground.
I woke up to the sound of horse hooves clopping on the ground and there was a gentle shaking as if I was on a cart. I opened my eyes, sun glared into my eyes. I sat up and realized I was on a cart. Sacks of what looked like grain surrounded me. With a few barrels and containers here and there. I looked ahead of me and saw a man in a cloak with reins in his hands. He was sitting on a seat attached to the front of the cart. I looked even further on and saw a blur of what looked like a proper city. I gasped in surprise, how long have I been on this? The man must have heard me gasp because he turned around.
“Oh, you’re awake now are you? He says.
“Wh-where am I?”
“Well, you’re on my cart of course!”
“Who are you?”
“Wow! You ask a lot of questions! My name is Johnathan. Food trader and trinket seller.” He replied.
I didn't reply, I just stared ahead at the growing shadow of a town. As I looked around I could see the landscape changing, grass and trees were starting to appear. Flowers and even a couple of people now and again. Before I knew it we were at the town.
I gasped. “This is my town!” I call out.
“Oh! Well that’s wonderful!”
I leaped from the cart and started to run as fast as I could. It was a Thursday, that means a school day. Before long I could see the school in front of me. I ran even faster. When I arrived at the doors I stopped in my tracks. Would they welcome me back or tell me to leave. I walked through the doors, the hallways were all empty but I could hear shouting from the classes. I walked down the hallway and then stopped at the door where my class was. I grasped the doorknob and turned it. I pulled it open and stepped in. Gasps echoed all around the room.
“MERISSA!!!” I heard someone call my name.
It was to masculine for Avalon. I looked around and my eyes met the ones of Jace.
