I haven't updated in freaking ever, sorry!
Something that was suggested to discuss was how to keep your character in character. (I forget who suggested it, forgive me!)
This is possibly more important than your actual plot. If you're character isn't n character, their actions and decisions won't be believable and the story will lose flare. If you have even a decently developed character, chances are, you can let them write themselves.
That doesn't mean that you won't have to actually write, but don't try to force a character into doing a specific action.
If you're plot starts by something happening to a character by him coming into someone and having to defend himself, and your character is a small, timid boy who doesn't fancy fighting at all, you should probably rethink how that's going to happen.
Especially recently, I've found myself changing entire scenes and chapters because I realize that the character that was going to say or do this, wouldn't actually do that.
I think this can easily all be avoided by knowing your character. Write down their personality, their likes and dislikes, background and relative and friends. Or if you're like me and have a hard time describing things like that, just write down the basics. I look at all of my characters as my friends (or not friends). I know them and to me, they're not just a fictional character, they're people and personas with thoughts and emotions. They have their own will and aren't necessarily something you can just bend to your will.
Also, a friend gave me a suggestion for battle writing and I thought I'd share it!
"something to help characters battle styles I've been doing recently and want to suggest if you ever have battles! Make your character in your head like a rpg character and give them a use such as a tank, a sniper a healer, defense or offense player etc! :> helps a whole bunch"
"I thought it may be helpful kind of like Zylen is the tank in a fighting situation, a lot of health and defense and takes the most damage acting as a battering ram usually at the front of the battle while Zion is an offensive speed kind of character etc."
they used their own character as an example, but i thought this was really helpful.
