"H-Hey."
You don't look up at Tyler. You're sitting on his couch, staring blankly at the opposite wall.
Your mind feels stuck. You want to force yourself to do something, anything, but all you can seem to do is sit and cry.
Tyler walks over and sits down next to you. He's holding something in his hand.
"I-I got something for you," he says sheepishly. "I know how much your notebook meant to you, a-and I know I can't replace it, but..."
You look down at Tyler's lap. He's holding an old, tattered yellow spiral notebook. It's wrinkled and ripped at the corners. It looks like he dug it out of his high school locker.
It's perfect.
"I-I got the pages from your place," Tyler continues. "I'm still trying to put them back together the best I can, but in the meantime..."
He hands you the yellow spiral notebook, and you hesitantly take it.
"I k-know it's not the same as your old one," Tyler blushes and averts his eyes. "I-It's not as pretty, and it probably still has some old shopping lists or bills in it." He lets out a little laugh.
Tyler takes your hand and looks at you.
"But...b-but I hope it works," he lifts his shoulder in a shrug and smiles weakly.
And, for the first time in days, you smile back.
