Meg waited in the smoky, brisk Coney air by the sea.
Her deep green coat hardly warm enough for the coming autumn air, as this wind tossed her blonde waves out of the carefully pinned updo. Meg hardly noticed, her thoughts far to occupied to think of her hair.
She watched as the grey waters lapped upon the rocky shore, her lips curling. Her thoughts wandered to Christine... and something in her heart stirred.
No, Meg thought. They both loved her. And I was alone. Did she not see? Did she not care?
No, Christine would never care. She was happy, singing for her angel. Probably flawlessly as she always did. Why did this bother Meg now? It had never before. But the thought of her singing, those thousands of Americans worshiping her awe inspiring voice, made her not regret what was about to occur.
Meg loved Christine and Christine her. But Coney had changed Meg, darkened her. Soon she would be happy too.
Foot steps sounded behind her, and yet she did not turn. Meg was uncertain as to who it might have been.
"Meg?" A man's voice whispered.

It was a wonderful room, beautiful white bed covers, a long, silver disk looking glass.... and two closets! It all was astonishing. Even on Coney her room hardly compared to this! And before that, she had lived in a hotel, and even before that, in a past she had mostly chosen to forget, she lived in the ballet dormitories while Christine slept comfortably in his-
Meg was shaking. "And you will not hate me for taking you?"
The man shook his head. He was so handsome... how could Christine not have seen how wonderful this man was?
Then, the man opened the small widow on their first class bedroom, which faced the raging sea.
He stared at his left hand for a long while, silent. Meg waited in baited breath. Perhaps he was recreating his choice? Thinking about how beautiful Christine was instead... and his son...
Suddenly, the man chucked something out the widow. It sparkled as the moonlight hit it, and it disappeared beneath the waves.
"A wife and children I may have had... but nothing could keep me there." Raoul said as he gazed at his lover, Meg Giry.
