Chapter 17

Chapter 17;

After breakfast, Austin asked Myrtle if she had called Jade.

Myrtle said yes and then told him that she was coming over later for dinner with her family (& the foster kids, of course). But for some reason, Austin had an awful pang of guilt for leaving Jade's.

Austin walked over to the music room and saw Ally grazing her fingers over the keys, not making any noise.

"Hey." Austin said.

Ally looked up.

"Hi." She replied.

"Whatcha doin?" Austin asked.

"Just...kinda...trying...I don't know." Ally said, giggling a little.

Austin knew there was something bothering Ally. He asked her what was wrong.

She didn't reply. Then after a minute she started talking.

"Well...after we ran away from Jade's...without notice, I've just kinda had this terrible feeling inside. I feel guilty. Ya know?" Ally said.

"I know exactly what you mean." Austin said, taking a seat next to her on the piano bench.

"And that guilty feeling? It kinda got worse because Jade is coming over for dinner later." Austin said.

Ally looked down. Her eyes started tearing up. Then her breathing got shallow and all the questions came bursting out.

"Oh! What are we gonna do? Isn't she mad at us? What if-"

"Shh. Don't worry. Myrtle got it under control." Austin said, cutting her off.

By the time 5:30 PM came, everyone was dressed nice, in their nicest clothes.

By 5:50 Jade and the rest of the crew came rolling in.

The two sisters hugged and then the children started pouring in.

Then the men met.

"I'm Damon Krueger. Myrtle's fiancé." Damon said, with straight face.

"Elliot Chancellor." Elliot said, staring into Damon's eyes; piercingly.

"Yeah. I know who you are." Damon said, staring harder; as if he was trying to read Elliot like a book.

It seemed as if they knew each other already. Like they were enemies in high school.

"Oh-kay..." Jade said a little bit awkwardly.

"Oh yeah! I forgot; I made some pies." Jade said, carrying one, with Kaylee and Dani behind her, each carrying one.

"Ooh!" Myrtle said taking a pie.

"Hayes, Damon, why don't you take the rest of those pies?" Myrtle asked.

Hayes took the pie from Dani's hands.

"Thank you." He said, smiling with his white teeth showing.

Damon gave Elliot one last look and picked up the pie from Kaylee's hands.

He gave Kaylee a little smile and walked towards the kitchen.

Dani was still staring where Hayes was standing.

"Uh...earth to Daniella?" Ally said, waving a hand in front of her face.

Dani laughed a little and gave Ally a hug.

"I see Dani's got a little crush..." Ally said, teasing her.

Dani's face turned a little red.

"Ok...well maybe. Who is he?"

"Well; that's Damon's son. His name is Hayes."

"Hayes..." Dani whispered to herself.

Before dinner, Myrtle and Jade had set up a kids table; instead of being scrunched up in one table.

Of course, the kids were reluctant at first because they weren't allowed to hear the 'adult' conversation.

By the time dinner started, Kaylee and Bella were already out of their seats, trying to listen to the adult conversation.

But of course, they were shooed away by 'sweetie, the adults are talking.'

The two girls made their way back to the table with pouty faces.

"Serves you right." Hayes said with a smile.

(Don't ask about that last bloody section. I was trying to fill it in & it turned out like bloody hell. )

After dinner, all the kids had gone up to Austin & Ally's room to play a game of truth or dare. Of course, the little ones younger than 10 were shooed away. So that left Dani, Austin, Ally, Hayes, Alex, Charlie, & some other teenagers.

Dani started.

"Ally...truth or dare?" Dani asked.

"Uh...dare." She replied.

"Ok...I dare you to...kiss Austin." Dani said, with a devilish grin.

'How cliché.' Ally thought to herself.

She took Austin by the hand and led him out into the hallway. The hallway was pitch black, but they knew their way around.

They stood face to face.

Awkward.

"We don't have to do this." Ally said, clearing her throat.

Austin shrugged.

Ally hit him.

"You actually want to do this?!?" Ally scream whispered.

"Fine. Just a peck on the lips. Nothing more. No labels after this." Ally whispered.
