River

When we'd finally arrived at the top of the hill, the first thing we did was looking for a perfect spot to build our hut. Cole was, however, didn't look interested at all. His dark eyes looked blank as he just stood there, arms crossed over his chest and he was staring off nowhere.

I wondered what he was thinking about though.

"Hey, are you okay?" I asked.

He nodded lightly.

"Yeah, I'm fine..." he replied. I heard him sighed softly as he took a seat on a dead log not far from he was standing. "...I'm just tired. I need a rest".

"Uh..." I muttered out. Walking towards him slowly, I then took a seat beside him --- purposely sitting closed to him albeit the space on the log was more than enough for the both of us to sit distantly. And, what made me smiled was the fact that he didn't seemed bugged about it at all. He reacted differently than he was before. He seemed more okay that I'd came this close around him. My smile turned wider.

"What?" I heard him asked all of a sudden. He turned to me with a deep frown now pulled across his face. "...what's so funny?".

I shrugged lightly; embarrassed that he caught me grinning like a madman at the mere progression I thought we'd started to develop. I meant, why not? He always run away from me whenever I came close until this moment. Which meant, he actually was trying to give me a chance...like he had told me before.

"Nothing..." I said. I pressed my lips into a thin line as I sat there silently. "...seriously, it's nothing..." I mumbled out stupidly.

"Why are you smiling then?" he asked again. His tone was clearly telling me that he was annoyed, and his frown was getting even deeper. Noticing his expression, I couldn't contain myself anymore as I smiled again --- this time for a different purpose --- you know, that kind of smile when you see cute things like puppies and kittens. Yes. That smile. He looked really adorable. "...you look stupid..." he added.

I winced.

"Thanks".

He then looked up at me with a weird expression wore on his face.

"That's not a compliment..." he muttered out.

"I appreciate everything that ever comes out of your mouth as long as you talk to me. Therefore, thanks..." I said, grinning. He then rolled his eyes at me in pure annoyance. "...and thank you too for not runnin---".

"Can we see the river by the way?" he suddenly interjected. He already stood up from where he was sitting --- his eyes once again looked blank as he stared at me. "...it's the only purpose why we're here anyway".

I swallowed a lump of saliva built itself inside my throat. Well, what he said was...hurt.

"Yeah, sure..." I replied. I got up and I immediately shoved my hands inside my pockets to hide how tensed I had turned right now. So, he only cared about the magical river more than healing our relationship? I meant, we were casually talking and being playful just now and he decided to end it. I liked how we were acting a few seconds ago, and it really hurts me when he didn't seem to appreciate it at all. It was, after all, the first sweet memory of our relationship. "...follow me..." I said, and he walked behind me as I quietly lead him to the said river.

Cole was standing in front of me as both of us were facing the river --- silently admiring the beauty of nature --- like we never had before. His eyes looked sparkling, happy, and for once, he was actually smiling.

"This is great..." he said. He walked towards one of a huge rock and he touched it --- his smile never seemed to fade --- before he crouched down to cup some water from the river with his two hands. "...so cold..." I heard him whispered. "...I really like it".

"I'm glad you like it..." I replied as I sat on the huge rock --- watching him dipping his hands into the water eagerly like one cute child.

Not saying anything further, Cole then picked up a small piece of natural clay he'd found somewhere at the brim of the river.

"So, this is what Grandma Nina told you about?" he asked. He held up the clay to me which I immediately took and observed it quietly. And, as expected, unlike any other clay, this one however, looked beautiful. It had different shades of color, and it smelt nice too.

"Yeah..." I said. I handed it back to him when I suddenly noticed that he was already staring at me. I smiled. "...what?".

"I'm sorry..." he suddenly apologized.

"What for?".

I didn't know why he was saying sorry all of a sudden, and it made me scared and confused at the same time. What he was going to say? What he was apologizing for? And, staring back at him in silence, I watched as he seemed to struggle with his words.

"I'm sorry, but..." he paused. He shifted his vision to somewhere else before he looked at me again, and a soft sigh escaped from his mouth. "...I-I don't think I'm ready to have sex with you again. You know, a-after what you'd done to me..." he paused to swallow a lump of saliva built itself inside his throat. "...I-I'm scare thinking of what you're going to do to me".

I was silent. My heart dropped, feeling disappointed altogether but I respected his choice nonetheless. It was, after all, wasn't his fault that he scared to be sexually intimate with me again. I abused him, turned his life into a living hell and basically ruined his first time experience. It was supposed to be sweet and tender, but I turned it into the opposite instead.

"Come here..." I said after a while as I reached my hand out to him. He seemed hesitated at first, but then, he slowly walked towards me and gently grabbed my hand. "...it's fine..." I said. "...take your time. I don't mind". Besides, I could use it as a point to stay here longer so I could be alone with him. "...it's okay".

He smiled.

"Thank you..." I heard him whispered. Then, I leaned over to briefly kiss his temple.

"If that makes you're comfortable, I won't mind at all".
