Juliet
It was Friday, the day before the first hogsmeade trip and I was sitting in my last class of the day, Potions. Honestly I could care less about the class, I got decent enough grades and it was fairly easy for the most part. Where as most of the Gryffindors hated the class to Snape's unfairness, he never really bothered me. Not like it mattered anyway, Snape was the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher.
Slughorn was the name of the new potions professor and he was nice but seemed like a total ditz. I've noticed in the past month or so of school Ryan and Draco have been acting weird. Both of them quit the quidditch team, which is odd considering how much the love to boast about it. I also noticed they'd began to skip meals, which is also unlike them considering they are always hungry. I wasn't the only one who noticed either, Dallas picked up on it as well, and Potter, his curious paranoid self was picking up on it too.
It was in today's potion class when my cousin and brother furthered my suspicions. Dallas, Bailey, and I walk into the potions room a sweet sent meeting my nose. Dallas and Bailey must've smelled it too as they gave a sigh in content.
The rest of the class filed in and Slughorn prepared to start the lesson when Saint Potter and Ron came stumbling in. I didn't pay much attention to the two as the scrambled for a book.
"Before I start the lesson today I have two potions up front that I would like you to identify," Sluggy states.
Like a bullet out of a gun Granger's hand shot up in the air, I roll my eyes as she answers the question. Amortentia is the potion that smells sweet and good. It's a love potion and it smells like your soulmate or true love or whatever. SInce it's a small class Slughorn makes all of us state what we smell like.
I smell old leather, vanilla extract, and male cologne. When Ron hears me his head shoots up and stares at me. I give him a questioning look as he stares at the floor.
Dallas smells peppermint, green apples, and aftershave. When she tells the class I see Draco out of the corner of my eye smile, even though it doesn't reach his dull tired eyes.
Ryan smells lavender freshly cut grass, and leather. This one puzzles me as I have smelled it before I just can't place where it's from. I notice he too has bags under his eyes and his head is hung low. He's not his usually happy self and barley reacts when talked too.
Bailey smells jasmine, ink, and rose perfume. Dallas and I share a knowing look as we know that's what Sawyer smells like.
Draco is the last one to go. Besides the small half smile when Dallas spoke he hasn't showed much reaction. He seems nervous and jittery and doesn't hear Slughorn when he asks what he smells. He doesn't answer until Ryan jabs him in the side. When he finally is a where he says he smells soap, leather, and lilac. I nudge Dallas teasingly and she blushes toward the floor.
The other portion on the table was Liquid Luck, at the sound of it Draco and Ryan's heads both shoot up. Sluggy says whoever can brew the Draught ot the Living dead the best with the remaining time in class the winner gets that small vile of luck.
Sluggy says we can begin and I open my ratty potions book. It was my mother's, my father found it over the summer and thought I would like it. It's proved useful as my mother has made various notes throughout the book tweaking the recipes and ingredients as they go.
I get my ingredients and began to make the potion. I eventually come to the first change in the book, crush the beans instead of cut. Crushing seems to be effective as everyone else struggles to cut them, Granger's hair has grown in volume. Dallas is trying to stab it and Draco and Ryan look like they're going to go mad as they both work to cut the bean. The only one who isn't struggling is Potter. He too crushes the bean. As I realize he is catching up to me I start making my potion faster.
Time seems to fly and the class is over. I finish with a few minutes to spare with Potter finishing shortly after me. Other then the two of us no one seems anywhere near done. Slughorn walks around the room looking at everyone's potions a dissatisfied frown in his face. That is until he comes to mine. In his words it's perfect and it seems like I won until he gets to Potter's.
He deems Potter's only slightly better than mine although I don't buy it as he awards the tiny vile to him. Slughorn says class is dismissed and I grab my book and storm out of the classroom.
"You got cheated," Bailey says as he catches up with me.
"Believe me I know," I grumble.
"It's only because he is the chosen one," Dallas mumbles.

The next day, Hogsmeade day, I am up early getting ready for the day. Originally I wasn't planning on going to Hogsmeade at all. But when Dallas said Draco canceled with her I decided to take his place and go with her. Which brings Dallas and I walking through the heavy snow.
"I can't believe he just cancelled like that," Dallas pnders.
I shrug, "Maybe he's sick. I've noticed he and Ryan haven't been looking to good lately."
"Maybe but what illness last three months."The rest of the is quite as we try to stay warm and once the little village is in sight Dallas and I sprint inot HoneyDukes for warmth.
"Jesus!" Dallas exclaims, "I didn't think it was going to be this cold today."
"Yeah well nothing like a couple of chocolate frogs can fix." I state and make my way over to the candy wall.
After we buy enough candy that can last the both of us to the end of the year. We head to the Three Broomsticks for a butter beer. I spot the golden trio a few tables away as Dallas and I find a booth to sit in. We order two butter beers and spend the time talking about everything and nothing. At some point during a conversation Slughorn appears and spills butter beer on Ron.
The golden trio finishes a few minutes before us and leaves. Once we're done we get up and start to make our way back to the castle. Dallas stops and I turn back to look at her.
"Nevermind I thought I saw Draco. It was probably just my mind." She shakes her head and we continue walking.
I can barely see the golden trio as the snow becomes more thick. Suddenly there was an ear splitting scream. Dallas and I look at each other as we sprint to the sound. I almost run into Ron as I see a girl jerk up into the air until suddenly she drops. Dallas pulls me past and I catch a glimpse of a necklace. I've seen it before, one summer when I was shopping with my Aunt Narcissa. It was at borgin and burkes and my stomach turns into notes as to how it came into that girls position. I hope I am wrong but if I am not I hope Ryan and Draco know what they got themselves into.
