Clary Should have anticipated this.

"Clary what hideous animal is that?" Jace asked, his eyebrows all arched up.

"It's a Reindeer Jace." Clary replied sounding half bored.

"So why is it on your sweater?"

"It's Christmas Jace. It's a tradition to wear it."

"They should rename this day to Lord behold the ugly sweater day."

Clary laughed, wholeheartedly, flicking her red hair behind her back. She was about to offer Jace some christmas pudding when her eyes found Simon. He came.

It had been hard for Simon, he tried not to let it affect him but his demon amnesia was the worst thing that happened to him. Maybe there were more bad things that had happened to him but with the demon amnesia thing he couldn't be sure. He couldn't tell, whether to be happy or sad about it.

Worse than the plot of The Underworld series Simon thought, maybe he could write a novel about his demon amnesia, How to Lose your Memory in 10 days. Maybe he'd get Magnus to put a spell on his publisher and sell 2 billion copies. Magnus was a warlock after all, he was sure he could do it.

But now he was here. He wasn't sure why he came but a raven haired goddess came to his head. Isabelle. Simon looked around awkwardly, having nothing better to do. At that precise moment he saw Clary making her way towards him. Her small frame pushing through a storm of drinking werewolves. Another pang, right there in his ribs, he felt it. He knew Clary was his best friend but there were too many pieces missing. Too many memories floating about.

"Hey" He managed.

Clary abruptly hugged him, and he found himself hugging her back. It felt familiar, her hair always smelled like grapefruit, he knew that.

"I'm so happy you came, come let's go meet the others" Clary pulled his hand.

Jocelyn and Luke were there talking to Tessa Gray, their conversation seemed to get heavier by the minute. Luke saw them and waved to Simon, Simon waved back.

They made their way towards Magnus and Alec. Magnus was setting fire to the cupcakes kept on a bright red table, blue sparks flared around. Beside him Alec was glaring, but Magnus didn't seem to notice.

"Ah Simon" Magnus Acknowledged his presence and the blue sparks suddenly stopped.

"Hello" Simon said, unsure of to how one greeted the High Warlock of Brooklyn. 'Hey' was too casual 'Hello' seemed to work.

"Mundane" someone called and Simon turned toward the voice. It was Jace.

"So back to Mundane are we?" Alec said looking at Jace.

Jace shrugged.

"What do you expect to me to say then?" Jace continued.

"Hi!!!!" Jace said rather too  chirpily and wriggled his eyebrows suggestively.

Simon half smiled.

It would have looked horrible on normal boys, Simon thought but on Jace it looked- what's the word- attractive.

"Hi Simon" another voice called.

Izzy

He knew it, he knew it without looking. He turned to face her and hope lighted her face.

There it goes again. Disappointment filled his bones. She and Clary both expected Simon, their Simon. But he didn't know who that Simon was anymore. He tried it for them, but he couldn't catch hold of their Simon. He felt like a traitor, felt as if he had betrayed them both somehow. Simon wanted to run away.

Hurt flashed in Isabelle's eyes.

I love they seemed to say.

I love you Simon.

His head was swimming now, too many memories running in the abyss. He wanted to say those words back, wanted to say it so badly. But somewhere he knew he still wasn't the person Izzy was looking for. She was going to have to wait till Simon gets to be that person.

So he let those words hang in there.

He let the wintertime breeze blow them away.
