Jason walked to the bus stop and met Rachelle there, greeting her with a giant bear hug.
“Jason, I can’t breathe!”
“Oops, sorry.”
“It’s ok.”
“Ok, I know you’re gonna hate me, but I HAVE to see your arm.”
“WHAT, NO.”
“Please, I want to see how bad it is.” At that moment, Rachelle thought back to the dream she had. She doubted it would actually come true but at least she could try.
“Ok, fine.” Rachelle pushed up her sleeve revealing 14 cuts. Some were healed while some were more recent.
“Oh my god, Rachelle, I had no idea!”
“Well, that’s not all.” She pushed up her other sleeve which revealed 14 more cuts, same as before. Some healed, some more recent. Jason started crying right there at the bus stop. He pulled her into another bear hug, careful to allow her to breathe as he held her tight.
“Please, promise me you won’t do this anymore.”
“But this is why I didn’t tell you. I don’t want to make a promise I can’t keep.”
“Please Rachelle!”
“Ok, ok, I promise.”
“Good.” They rode to school and met their friends at the tree they always met at. The drama club was really tight, it was like one big family. No matter how hard they tried though, Jason and Rachelle couldn’t bring themselves to talk to Maddie. They also were VERY obvious about their relationship. They held hands, shared food, and by the end of the day, rumors were flying about the two of them.
This went on for a couple of days and naturally, Maddie heard the rumors. She came running to Rachelle in tears.
“Is it true? What everyone’s saying? Are you and Jason going out?”
“Ummmm, Jason! I need you to come here.”
“What?” Jason said as he walked over. Then he saw Maddie. “Oh.”
“Maddie, I am sooooo sorry, we wanted to tell you, but we didn’t know how. I wish you didn’t have to hear it from someone else.”
“How did this even happen? I didn’t even know you liked him.”
“I didn’t tell anyone, it just sorta, came out. I’m sorry. I swear I didn’t do this to hurt you.” Jason watched as the two girls talked.
“But you knew I liked him.” Maddie was really losing it now.
“I know, I wanted to tell you that I liked him too the moment I found out but I just couldn’t, I’m sooooo sorry.
“I just can’t believe you would do this to me.” Maddie completely lost it and turned to run away.
“Maddie, wait!” Jason had finally spoken.
“Let her go Jason.”
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s ok. I’ll talk to her later when she calms down.”
Rachelle walked to drama club with Jason. Today they were performing monologues. Everyone sat and watched as others performed. When it was Jason’s turn he got up on stage and as soon as he started to talk, Maddie moved to sit next to Rachelle. She gave Rachelle a big hug, this was her way of telling Rachelle everything was fine. It was a great relief for both of them.
Rachelle did her monologue next, she was the last one. When she finished, the teacher, Mrs. Casser, reminded them that the musical tryouts were that night.
“I am so excited!” Rachelle told Maddie.
“Me too, I really want to lead but everyone knows you’re gonna get it.”
“Hey, I’ve got plenty of competition, including you.”
“Yeah right. Well, I’ve got to go, I’ll see you this afternoon.”
“Bye.”
The rest of the day went on mostly the same as every other day. At the end of the day all the kids met up in the drama room to auditions. They had to sing, dance, and perform a scene. Rachelle was confident in her audition but she was also worried. She really wanted that part but what if she didn’t get it? At the end of auditions, Mrs. Casser said the results would be posted Friday afternoon. ‘Wow, Friday afternoon couldn’t come fast enough’ thought Rachelle. But before she knew it, it was here….

“YES!!!!!” Rachelle screamed. She was sooo happy!
“Rachelle, you got the lead?” Jason asked running to catch up with her.
“Yes, I am soo excited. I can’t believe this is happening!”
“Wow, this is so great Rachelle. I’m really happy for you.”
“Thanks.”
