Elise's POV

We walked to the Supermarket because we all were 13 and 14 so we couldn't drive. I was the youngest, I'm 13 because I have a late birthday. Everyone else in my grade is 14 or 15, but I'm still 13. I didn't get moved up a grade or anything like that, if that's what your thinking. I'm not that smart. "What's on the list?" I wrote down. "Eggs, milk, bread, dog food, and lunch meat." Said Casey. We never talked to each other at school, I didn't think she even knew who I was. Max goes to our school too, but he's in all the honors classes so I don't really get to talk to him. Mary said she was home schooled and Jake went to a different school. "Make a left here." Jake said. When we got to the store we all got assigned a different item to get. I need to get the lunch meat. I didn't think it would be that hard. I just needed to pick up what everyone wanted. I walked over and it wasn't were I can just get it and go. I had to pick a number and tell them what I needed. I can't really do that! I picked a number and waited. When my number was called I gave the lady my sketch book with the list. She was a big, mean, Foreign lady, with her hair put back in a bun with out a hair net. She looked at it for a minute. "What's the matter with you? Can't talk? Why are you writing it down?" She asked. She had my sketch book so I couldn't write down that I was mute, and I didn't think she spoke sign language. I just shrugged my shoulders. I think she took longer on purpose. She gave it to me without asking if this was enough. She left my book on the counter so I just grabbed it and walked away.
We walked out of the store with everything we needed, but no change. As we walked out I saw Jake get nervous. "Let's go this way." He told us pushing us way from the group of boys at the corner. "Hey, look! It's Jake!" Said a really big kid who looked my age. "Dam it" Jake said under his breath. "Start walking to the corner and wait for me there." He whispered to us. We started walking but 3 of the boys in the group stopped us. "Hello, hello..." said a tall pasty boy with a buzz cut. "Who are you?" he asked Casey looking her up and down. "Not interested." She said to him. "Come on, Chase needs a little something." He said talking in third person. "How about you?" Chase said looking at me. He began to reach the edge of my skirt. I smacked his hand and he backed off. "GET AWAY FROM HER!" Jake screamed. "What are you going to do about it?" Said the big kid. Jake started to get ready to fight. I knew that Jake would hart them, even kill them. He had such anger in his eyes. I quickly ran in front of him, looked into his eyes and put my hand on his cheek like last time. He started to become less tense. "Lets get home." Said Mary.
We walked home without saying a word. We got up to the bounty. "Hey guys, their back." Said Mary looking out the bedroom window. The building the ninja lived in wasn't very tall only about 3 stories tall and they lived in the pent house on top. The bounty was on the roof. We were on the deck so we could see them in the ally next to the building. "Stay here, I'll go out alone." Jake said. "No, we're a team. We're all going." Said Max.
We got to the ally. "Good, they saw us, I thought I was going to have to get up there on my own. So Jake are you ready to finish what we started?" Said the big kid. "I brought friends this time. Yours can fight too if you want." "Never, this is my fight." Said Jake. I didn't want him to fight alone, but I didn't think we had a choice. Jake started throwing punches, and was winning. When I saw the big kid sneak up behind him. No one else saw and I couldn't scream and tell him. The next thing I knew. The big kid punched Jake in the head. Jake was on the ground, not moving.
