We all know how viral her story went in just a week. It just started in two public Facebook pages and thanks to the new era's game-changing "Like-Comment-Share" feature, plus some spells of social (and exaggerated) marketing, the Lucia Joaquin story slash creepypasta became a place in most of the newsfeeds.
But now, with online crusaders saving people from another social media thing, real information about the background of the story keeps on being published, like from which movie Lucia's face was derived, and so on.
In relation, there is something more in it than what it is really meant as another thing found in the Web. Seeing how people reacted on Facebook, how some of them believed in the cult, and observing how they capitalize into the crowd. To cut it short, the Lucia Joaquin fictional character is just a clear reflection or personification of ourselves—more specifically, our personal fears.
From Merriam-Webster online, fear is "an an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat". From Dictionary.com, it is "a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined". Unpleasant; distressing; whether the threar is real or imagined.
Based on this, fear is obviously seen as a weakness of a person. And this Lucia Joaquin creation is an obvious evidence on how we respond on things that drives us into our shivering of thoughts. On how we shape-shift human nature due to the occurence of fear. This Lucia is a symbolization of our fears, of our midnight truths when we are alone and of sleepless nights we suffered from the unforgettable days.
And what is worse in fear? The likely chances of it being taken in a position against you. Once in a while, you would hear the story of a nerd girl being bullied by the fashionist group of girls. They would take her eyeglasses away and at one point, they would end up locking her in the ladies' room. You would also come with the story of the bullied student jumping off the roof top, and several haunting hearsays will start later on...(well, that is a different story already.)
The thing is, fear is already a bad weather to one's crops. Much more, if bullies will take advantage of it, making it a storm season rather than a climate. Yes, we might never know how many people are there waiting for us to show them what our fears and weaknesses are. But if we are going to do to overcome those things on ourselves before they got the chance with them, then it is like an auto-crash Google Chrome feature when they try to sneak out in your device. It is letting them in at your house only to their surprise of seeing a lot of guns aimed at them.
We must learn on how to avoid to make any Lucia Joaquin in ourselves. Because it is not just a dummy that they seeing in us then but also a social toy they can easily play games on. The point is, we must overcome our weaknesses and fears before they become a laughing stock of others.
Me. I hate to see others laughing at me amidst their braces. Instead I really love to turn their laughter into those of Mario's Pee Mak character, Nak's and friends'.
