It was early in the morning when I woke up. I looked at the clock.
5 a.m.
I stood up and went into the kitchen. As always,my brother fell asleep on the table while finishing his homework. I quickly cooked something for us, just some eggs and würst as usual, and an orange juice.
«Ludwig...hey, bruder, aufwachen
I lightly shook him to make him open his eyes and he slowly did so.
«Gilbert..» He groaened.
«I made breakfast...It's 5.30 a.m, you dozed off while doing your homework again. You shouldn't overwork like this...»
«Entschuldigung, bruder...»
«Here, eat» I grinned.
«Danke...» He still was really sleepy; I patted his back and sat down in front of him.
We both ate everything that was on our dish and got ready to go to school. He was younger than me so I sometimes helped him with his homework, but lately he's refused any help.
I was quite worried.
«So, do you want to talk about something with me?»
«No, Gilbert, I'm okay.»
«Sure...»
We lived alone, our parents left us when we were still little, so I've always been the one who had to take care of both since I am the older one.
It was 6.30 a.m.
We both left for school, silently.
When I arrived at school (Y/N) wasn't there yet. She sounded very sad the day before, I was worried sick. Class started and she didn't arrive, only after 5 minutes someone knocked at the door and it cracked open; she entered.
«I-I'm sorry, I'm late..»
Our professor told her to go to her seat, take out her things and follow the lesson.
«It doesn't have to happen again.» he added right before she sat down. He was very strict, perfect in everthing; he wanted everyone to be like him, nobody had to make mistakes, not even the most insignificant and smallest one.
The bell rang and we finally had some time for ourselves.
«Hey, (Y/N), are you okay? You're never late.»
«The bus was late so I was late too.»
I nodded.
«What did you want to tell me?»
«...Not here...there's too many people...»
«Wanna go on the roof? People usually don't go there.»
She stood up and started walking to the roof; I did the same.
We sat on the bench and I waited for her to talk; I couldn't help but thinking at how beautiful she was while I stared at her: her hair was leaning on her shoulders, softly, her lips were a little opened, not knowing if they should move and let those words out or completely close. Her eyes, looking at the ground, trying to look deep into her thoughts, covered a little by her long eyelashes.
«My father...has cancer.»
«Eh?!»
«At the stomach.. he's going to be operated soon...it's...not that serious...but still, I'm worried. A lot..»
I didn't know what to say, I couldn't speak at all. I grabbed her chin and lightly turned her head, making her look at me; then I put a hand on the back of her head and pulled it close to my chest, caressing it.
«I'm sorry...I hope it goes well.»
I hugged her tightly, holding her against my body, trying to be reassuring.
She started to cry a little, silently : I felt it because her tears started to wet my shirt. But I didn't care, all i wanted in that moment was to make her feel better.
She dried her tears and looked up at me while I kept caressing her hair.
«I'm sorry...I had a breakdown.»
«It's okay. Are you feeling any better?»
«Yes...a little. Thank you. Let's go back to our class.»
Once school ended, I walked away seeing (Y/N) with her friends, and I went back home with Antonio. We didn't talk much, just a few words, because he had to leave soon.

«I'm home!» I said, entering.
«Welcome back, bruder.» muttered Ludwig. «I made you lunch today.»
«Oh...t-thank you.» I smiled and went to hug me. He slowly hugged me back, but I barely felt it. I don't know why but he's been like this for a long time. When we were little, we were really close; we were always together, laughing, playing around...but now the only thing we do is...talk. Sometimes.

«Haha, Ludwig, you can't catch me!» I said while running away from him.
«Shut up, you know I'm faster than you!» he laughed, then jumped, knocking me down on the floor. «I got you!»
«Nooo! I can do better!»
«Show me then!» He grinned, keeping me blocked on the floor.
Just then our mother walked in.
«Come to eat my pretties, lunch is ready!»
«Yes mum!» we said together, then got up and ran to the kitchen, when our dad was sitting.
«So, who won this time?» he said.
«I did!» screamed Luddy.
«But I am sure I will next time!»
He playfully punched my arm while our mother was putting the dishes in front of us.
«Oooh, sauerbraten!!» I said cheerfully.
«Oh noo...»
«Come on Luddy, it's so good!»
«I don't like it.»
«How is it that you two are so different but so similar at the same time?» said our father, giggling.
«Gilbert got this from you darling. You love this dish.» Our mum smiled. «Ludwig, try at least to eat it. I made it a little different this time.»
«Okay...»
