He had left so suddenly, slipping straight out from under your nose. How were you to know that he was going to be attacked? How were you to know he would disappear?
Going to work was hard but it kept your mind of the hard-hitting grief that caught hold of you on your lunch breaks. Your friends were doing their best to support you, but they didn't know that you and Kai were each other's everything. Or at least, he was your everything.
Snuggling up in between the sheets that still held his lingering scent was your only source of comfort. Laying your head on his pillow every night just to smell his shampoo. Yet you knew his scent would fade, so you held the pillow even tighter.
The night had crept up on you and by 8;00 pm you were in bed watching TV. You laid on Kai's side, with your back facing the window.
A few small taps on the glass startled you, convincing yourself it was only the branches of your neighbours stupid and overgrown tree. Yet they became impatient, loud and after a large hit you were positive that the window glass had been cracked at the least.
By now you had turned the TV off, the room was filled with a large void of darkness and it was silent. You were curious to have known what could've been banging on your window, but after watching so many horror movies, you were trying to convince yourself to stay in bed. If only Kai was here to protect you. But he isn't.
After ten minutes you were sure that whatever had been banging on your window wasn't going to bang again, so you turned the TV back on and continued watching. Yet your curious itch was torturing your consciousness and as you tossed and turned trying to sleep, you were held hostage and forced yourself out of bed and towards the window.
Grabbing hold of the edge of the curtains you ripped them apart to see nothing. Nothing was at your window. Yet a huge crack remained. Great, more money to fork out to pay for a window fix.
A creak of the floorboards behind you, set each hair on end while goosebumps were raised on your skin. Your muscles tensed up and you were sure you were about to be slaughtered. Why wouldn't you be?
You refused to turn around and see your death coming. You were to afraid to face it, rather just have it out of the way.
A hand had run itself down the back of your arm and towards your shoulder blade. The skin was icy cold and made you shiver. Upon feeling you shiver in fear, a deep chuckle was released from behind you. The chuckle was dark and familiar and you only could only think of Kai.
You had spun around on your own terms immediately to find Kai's face only centermetres from your own, a large smirk covering his lips and his eyes were silently teasing you.
His arms snaked around your waist and you felt such comfort in his touch again. The moment was short lived and you pulled away roughly.
Kai seemed momentarily shocked at your sudden pull away before stepping a little closer, you were backed up against the wall now and you could feel his arms lean on the wall beside of your face.
"Baby it's okay" he whispered as a hand lifted you chin softly.
"No it isn't. You left me. That's it." You pulled a sour face that seemed to displease him. His lips were downturned into a frown before he placed his lips to yours. They were icy cold.
"I had to leave for a little while. I had to learn how to control my impulses before I came back to you. I wanted you to be safe and now I'm never leaving you again."
Confusion was evident on your face as you gripped Kai's arm tightly.
"Kai what are you talking about?" You were frantic in recievingthe answer, whether it be good or bad.
"I was attacked my love, not by a man but by a man that will live forever and drain the souls of the living. I am now one of these creatures. I was turned to become a creature of the night and I've been welcomed into a family. They call themselves EXO. I don't want you to be scared of me, for I would never hurt you, nor could I dream of it. So stay with me, forever."
