I had lived along for as long as I can remember. I had taken refuge in a small apartment just East of the city. I had isolated myself from society from one prime reason. The Fae. We've lived among them since the beginning of time and even still, war rages all around us.
There used to be a population of 7 billion humans that lived on the planet. We had vastly outnumbered the Fae. We had believed, that with so many of us, we were safe. However we were not. The Fae had attacked, city after city, until nations had been pulled into their grasp like a vacuum cleaner.
Our human population dwindled to a small 1 million, three quarters of which, are soldiers. The rest keep society running. We had managed to hold off the Fae from taking over our state, the remaining human population had fled to a safe zone, leaving every other destination unguarded.
Many were slaughtered on the way. Only the lucky ones actually arrived at the safe zone.
