Chapter Ten |
Y o u r  p o v

A week before break in.

"Why is this place busy at night?" I ask, confused mainly. My eyes scanned over the "workers" walking around the building, typing on computers. Everyone had a purpose, a responsibility.

"Perfect time to do illegal things without anyone knowing." Zayn says, analyzing the screen intensely.

We both are watching the surveillance footage, studying the movements of everyone from the torturers to the security guards. We occasionally looked at surveillances from different levels of the facility. It was already 10:00 o'clock at night & everyone already knew their roles in tomorrow's plan.  I found Zayn sitting on the couch, eyes fixated on his computer screen.

I decide to join him. I want to get an idea of what these people are like. Their routines, patterns. What they actually do in this place but mainly all I saw where them on computers or walking into different rooms. I'm guessing all the illegal activities take place in there—where there are no surveillances. Makes sense. It's like they almost know they are being monitored. Who wants to be filmed torturing or injecting humans with drugs on a daily basis? The fact that there are no cameras in the rooms make it better for us. We could literally get in & out without being seen too much.

Apart of me wants to see him suddenly appear on the screen as Zayn jumps from different camera angles/levels, However; another part of wouldn't like what I'd see.

"Why haven't the NYPD released Jason's pictures to the public yet? What are they waiting for?" I ask, breaking the silence. Zayn's eyes stay fixated on the screen.

"Isn't that a good thing?"  He asks, slightly distracted.

"It is, but why would they withhold it?"

"The NYPD would have gladly released his pictures, however; they handed Jason over to the Arc so they don't have the authority to. "  He says, "What kind of authority does The Arc have over the police? They do illegal things, they torture people." I ask, deeply confused.

"They are another form of law enforcers. A little more extreme. You're only sent there if you have or know something they want. Jason is in their jurisdiction." He says, while still studying the surveillance footage.

What?

"What do they want from him?"

He sighs, pausing the footage. "He's a criminal. He's apart of gang that cops have been trying to dismantle for years. Our gang has partnered with others through different transactions. Jason is the key to dismantling all of the biggest gangs in America—including ours."

"So you're saying they'd never release his pictures?" I ask thoughtfully. If we get him out effectively, he'd actually have a chance at continuing his life. He wouldn't have to be on the run from cops at every momentous his life —if pictures of him aren't released to the public. Otherwise he'd never have a normal life again.
