Is now the appropriate time to ask for forgiveness?

We are alone—technically. Everybody else is walking a couple of feet ahead of us.

Maybe now is not the right time being that we are technically on the run and potentially can die any minute. Maybe I should save all that talk for the jet—if we even make it.

Sorry, I know I don't sound fucking optimistic that's because I'm a realist.

Or some might say a pessimist.

Should I even apologize? Of course. But I'll sound like a fucking broken record. I know relationships aren't easy and we all screw up, but I've screwed up too many to count. It's become repetitive; it's become a routine. What's next? Cheating? I'm surprised that hasn't been one of my screw ups. Knowing me, it's only a matter of time. What is wrong with me? Of course, I'd never want to do something like that to her—but the way I'm set up; it's bound to happen. I don't trust myself. If I could turn myself in and ghost her for months, can you imagine what else I'd do. I'm the true definition of a toxic person entering and ruining someone's life.

"Would you leave me if I cheated on you?" I ask irrationally. I know this question is inappropriate. To be honest, I don't even know why I opened my mouth in the first place. It's almost like I'm asking for a dispute.

Her grip on my hands loosens. Her eyes furrowed deeply, perplexed. She hesitantly rubs the back of her neck, refusing to look at me. Why the fuck am I so weird?

"Are you thinking about cheating on me?" She asks, smiling slightly. Never. She narrows her eyes, glancing at me.

"No, I want to know your breaking point," I say. I bite my lip, realizing that she isn't walking anymore. She stops, studying me.

"This would be my breaking point."

Damn.

"What's yours?" She asks sarcastically.

"You're mad."

She shrugs.

I stand here quietly.

"Say what you have to say." She says,

"I made you mad. I'm sorry."

"I hate you." She says, frustratingly. She runs her fingers through her hair, staring up at me. Her eyes are glossy. Please don't cry.

"You don't mean that."

"You're right."

"I said I'm s—"
