I saw a floating coffee cup go past me on the morning of my first day of high school. My dad grabbed the ceramic cup out of the air. He forced his bag off the dinner table and into his hand. He walked out the door and said his goodbyes.
"Your father sure has a way to make an exit," my mother said as she giggled.
"I am taking the car, Poppy, and you better wolf down that muffin if you want to get to your first day Freshy," Kellin said as he started to walk out the door.
I used my powers to slam the door right in his face. We all laughed and Kellin and I stepped out into the sunshine. We hopped into the van and he blasted the stereo I covered my ears and then the music stopped. I apparently broke the radio, way to go me. He gave me a scowl and then smirked at me in a sympathetic way. He knew that I didn't have complete control over my powers yet so he didn't yell at me and I let out a relieving sigh. He was so thoughtful even when I was so dumb. The curb appeared and he nodded me out I cringed at the sight because I was not ready. I have been practicing my abilities the whole summer with my dad, but the one thing my dad forgot to teach me is how to conceal the telekinesis. Since I broke the radio without trying it is going to be a bumpy road. I jumped out of the car and gave Kellin a high five, drove to the parking lot, got out, and walked to his class. He always knew how to make me laugh. I saw my friend Delilah on the bench and when she saw me she put on her big cheesy smile. I could tell that something was up. She went to live with her sister in New York for the summer and she had made some big changes. She dyed her hair pastel green and got a little stud on her nose. I don't know what got into her to do that. She had blond hair and a photogenic face. I swiped away the thought out of my mind and walked up to her.
"I like the new look, Delilah. It was so boring here," I said even though I was practicing my powers all summer.
"I had so much fun! Hey Poppy, do you mind if I come over to your house today and is your brother going to be there."
I laughed. She had a crush on my brother for a while now, but her and I both now that is never going to happen. She occasionally tried to flirt with him, but he never took the hint. Also, I told her that she couldn't date him because that would be so weird. I said yes and then we walked into the double doors. Kids were flustering and all over I could see that I was not alone in the "I have something supernatural about me" department. I saw an older girl with a hoodie, sunglasses, and a bottle of sunscreen that queued me in that she was a vampire. A fury jock looked me up and down and I focused and put his hood over his head the fun way. He walked away and stared at me now terrified. Delilah looked at me hesitantly. I haven't told her yet about my telekinesis. She looked away, but I knew that I had to tell her about it today. She and I finally got to our classroom and sat down. If I was having this weird of a day today, I was horrified by what would come for me in the future.
