Beatrice pulled up when we headed out the door. I told Delilah what we were doing after school and she agreed to come with me. My heart was beating a mile a minute. She and I hopped into the car and started to drive away.
"Are you nervous Poppy? If you are you don't have to be. Your grandmother would never try to ruin your life. She probably wants to help you," said Delilah.
"I am nervous because I know that she loves me enough to tell me when I am in trouble."
"Hey, you will be fine. Whatever she says it won't change who you are, just what you might become."
As she said that, I was not paying much attention. My mind was drifting severely. We drove up into the driveway and got out of the car. My grandmother opened the door like if she knew that we just pulled up. I stepped inside the quaint house, Beatrice and Delilah followed suit.
"Delilah, it is so nice to see you," grandma said with a certain tightness in her throat.
"Mrs. Morgan I already know about your family's powers. I came here to help Poppy."
"So I wanted to tell you, Poppy, that you are going to become apart of a special organization. The third child of certain families is chosen to be a part of the Ice Phoenix Configuration. When you turn fifteen next week you will get phoenix wings like mine," said grandma as blue wings unfurled from her back.
"You will join this organization right when you get your wings, but you will still have to attend school and go about your normal life. There you will fight evil and you can eventually retire if you want to get a job. I retired because I married your grandfather."
"Will she still have her telekinesis, or will she just be a Phoenix Fighter?" Beatrice looked concerned.
"She will have both powers and that is what makes her special. With both powers, you can be unstoppable in battle and there will be nothing you can't do," grandma said.
"How will they know that I get my wings?"
"They have been watching you since you were born. If you don't enlist then you can risk your life for disobeying," said grandma.
I burst out into tears. If I can't even take care of the powers that I have now, how was I supposed to be a Phoenix Fighter? I dropped on the couch with thoughts rushing in like a river. Delilah was comforting me, which was very securing to me that she was my friend through all of this.
"I reacted the same way, but then I realized that my family and friends would be by my side. I met your grandfather there." A single tear rolled down her face as she remembered the great memories with him.
"I love you grandma and thank you for telling me. At least you don't keep me in the dark. I guess I have to make the best of it. Who knows? Maybe I will find my other half like you did. Anyways, I better getting going so I can study for a quiz tomorrow," I said as we all headed out the door.
Even though I stopped crying I still felt very sick. High school is bad enough to get through, but being apart of an elite organization is a different story. My fifteenth birthday will sure be fun. (Not.)
