When I eventually found him, lurking behind a wall by the science building. I could see he was conflicting with thoughts in his mind. I could tell because his eyes were looking both left and right and just not staying in one place. Also, he seemed to be muttering to himself. This weird habit of his that he had and I knew it. It was because he was thinking like I could hear the cogs working on and on and on inside his head. It made me upset to know that he was doing this, but I also knew it was his own doing in the first place. I couldn’t take anything back. Only he could either sort out the wrong doings or just leave in peace.
Then the thought hit me. I was here. Finding him. Not the other way around. So maybe this is how it’s meant to be.
Me and him.
Him and me.
“Hi… It’s me, as you can probably tell. I, erm, just wanted to say that I’m sorry for behaving like I did earlier..” I placed my hand on his shoulder, watching him flinch slightly before composing himself again. He shrugged my hand of and I let it hang limp at my side. He mumbled, before turning to me and opening his arms. I gladly landed in them, embracing him like I used to. Smelling his rich smells of spice (which I don’t know where he got it from) it made me feel like I was home. This is what it’s all about, I thought, sighing contentedly. It made me feel happy.
But he had to go and ruin it. “Listen Callie, I’m in love with you but I don’t want this to be us. I want to start fresh. Wipe the slate clean,” He let me go, but managing to keep his hands on the end of my arms, by my wrists. “Maybe it’s for the best, to start it again-“
“No, no, no, no” I cut him off, not wanting to hear anymore. I was shaking my head, wrenching my wrists out of his hands. “Need to find Jake...” I muttered turning and almost running away. “Callie! Wait! Don’t get him involved” He called after me, voicing his worry that he felt deep down.
I ran. I knew where Jake would be. I know, it seems like I knew where everyone is during their free time in Lunch and Break time. “JAKE!” I screamed, wanting him to hear me even though there was still some distance between me and him. He stopped, turned round in my direction from where I screamed from. “Callie?!” I could see him pick up the pace and run towards me.
I didn’t care what Duncan said anymore. I needed Jake. I needed him.
