I got home that day, Mother was in the bathroom washing and Father was out at a business Meeting. Secretly, I think that he’s seeing another woman, since he never acts the same as he was about 3 years ago, towards my mother. It’s a shame, but I let it pass. If Mother is clueless, then I’m not going to say anything. Don’t want to put an end to a pointless marriage. Oh wait, they had me, so it can’t be all pointless right?
I didn’t want to remind myself of the events, so I pushed all the stuff that I have from Him towards the cupboard and threw a sheet over the pile. Anything, just anything that reminded me of him, I tucked away most of the items, but there were a few things that I couldn’t bring myself to hide. But other than that, it was going to be fresh start.
Meandering out to the kitchen, I knocked on the bathroom door on my way past and called out to Mother, “Do you want anything to drink Mummy?” Don’t judge. I still call her Mummy because she told me to call her it. If I could, I’d call her Mother. But I don’t, so there. She replied with a simple “Tea please” so I shrugged and moved on to the kitchen where a little note was taped to the fridge. From Father;
Dear Suzanna
(and Callie, if you are there)
I won’t be home until next Monday. This business meeting is going to last because we have officials meeting us from all over the world. If you have any problems, do not hesitate to call me on my mobile number and I will try to pick up if I am around. Unless of course it’s switched of due to meeting policies.
However, I have left both you and Callie £500 in the jar in the cupboard in our room. That should at least be £250 each. That should be enough for you both to do what you want. Well, I say what you want; it should be within reason of course. If anything happens to me, you will be immediately contacted and informed. But do not worry. I will be home as soon as I can.
Love,
Father & Husband,
Robert
The rest of the letter was irrelevant really. I was just cared about the money that he had supposedly left us. ‘In the cupboard in our room.’ This left me curious. So, being a good girl that I am, I made Mother her tea, with 3 sugars and little milk; just the way she likes it. Then I went to investigate. Sneaking into their room wasn’t a problem. I did it daily with the fact that I enjoyed taking a sniff at Mothers new perfumes that she always seemed to have on her dresser. It was generally getting back out because Mother timed it so well to have to come into her room at the time I needed to leave.
After rooting around in their room for a small amount of time, I found the cupboard that Father was talking about and then opened it up. I found, inside, was the small jar that contained both amounts of money and it was just shouting at me to take my half. But, Mother being Mother, walked in as soon as I touched my stash.
“Young Lady! What do you think you are doing?!” Mother screeched at me, while I snapped my hand back to my side, letting the cupboard shut itself. “Mummy, I was just looking. I saw the note on the fridge. Daddy said that he left us both about £250 money in the jar” I was forced to sound like I was whining when I had to use the babyish terms when speaking to them. I hated it.
