(Kellz' POV)
I stumbled into the house at 2 AM, completely trashed. Lacy and Summer were both laying on opposite ends of the couch. I didn't want to wake them so I quietly walked to the bedroom. I took off my shirt and pants and laid in the bed. I heard footsteps. Lacy. "Really? Two in the morning? You're gonna come stumbling in here, trashed like no other, at 2 in the fucking morning?" She yelled. "Lacy-" I began. She cut me off. "No, I don't wanna hear it. Just lay down and get some sleep. We can discuss it when you're sober." I laughed. "This is funny to you?" She questioned. "Yeah it is actually. It's like you're my mom or something. I am an adult, Lacy. If I'd like to get high or drunk or whatever, I can do it." Lacy smiled an evil smile. "Oh really? Then get the fuck out." I just nodded. "I should have never came back home." I said as I put my clothes back on. Lacy laughed. "You're right, Jaycob and I were perfectly fine without you." I walked out of the front door again, slamming it behind me.
I woke up to Slim shaking me. "Kellz, wake up. You're crying in your sleep." I sat up. "What?" I said. I felt dry tears on my cheeks. I sat up and wiped my face. "Motherfuck." I said. "Kellz, what happened dawg?" Slim asked, concerned. "Things between Lacy and I just keep getting worse and worse, dude. I can't make her happy no matter what the fuck I do, so I kinda gave up trying today. I've reached this point where I realize I'm damned if I'm with her and I'm damned if I'm without her." I said. "The worst part is, it's effecting my relationship with Jaycob. She won't let me touch him and if she had her way, I wouldn't be able to see him either." Slim nodded. "Bruh, we warned you that she crazy." I just look at him. "She's not crazy, Slim. She's damaged." I said, glaring. Slim stepped back. "Don't you ever talk about her like that again." Slim nodded. "Damn, take it easy bruh." I took a deep breath and walked outside.
(Lacy's POV)
"I just don't understand what went wrong. I don't understand how to fix it. I don't understand." I said. "Lacy, just breathe." Summer replied. "No, Summer. I'm losing the love of my life and I have no clue how to stop it." Summer wrapped her arms around me. "Lacy, chill. It's gonna be okay." I shook my head. "How do you know?" I asked. "Lacy, I've seen you battle abusive boyfriends, an addiction, and many other obstacles, and come out strong. You can battle love and come out strong too." I took a deep breath. "Summer, can we...can we go somewhere?" I asked. "Where do you wanna go?" She asked. "I wanna go away from here." I said. She nodded. "We'll take a road trip. I'm taking a week off from work, so will a week do?" I nodded. "I'm gonna go home and pack some things. You get you and Jaycob's things ready and I'll be back in about 15 minutes." I nodded. As soon as she left, I started to text Kells to let him know, but I decided to call him instead. He picked up on the 3rd ring. "What?" He asked, frustrated. "I'm leaving for a week. Summer and I are going on a road trip. No clue yet where. Spur of the moment type of thing. But we'll need to talk when I get back. No time sooner. Also, I'm not asking for your permission. I don't care if you don't like it, I'm going." I said. Pause. "Can I please come see Jaycob before you leave?" I took a deep breath. "You can keep him for the week if you'd like.." I said. "I'm on my way." He said. We hung up.
Later, Summer and I were driving down the road. Kellz had just picked up Jaycob. We had the windows rolled down and music blaring. For the first time in a long time, I was at peace. We were headed to Malibu, California. We'd already called and purchased a hotel. Summer looked at me. "This is great." She said. "Forsure." I nodded. She smiled. I smiled back. "Like I told, Lace. Everything will be okay." I just turned and looked out of the window. I hope so, I thought. That night, we stopped at rest stop. We only had 6 more hours to go. We each used the restroom. I bought a candy bar, Summer bought some chips, and we each bought a drink. I took the wheel the rest of the way there so Summer could sleep. Before driving, I checked my phone for the fourth time. Kells still hadn't attempted to call or text me. Was he giving up? Why did I care? Fuck him too then.
We arrived in Malibu at around 1 PM. When we got there, we stopped at a restaurant to get some lunch. I was starving. We paid seperately for our food and ate in silence. My phone rang. I jumped. I quickly took it, thinking it was Kells. "Hi." I said, bitterly. "You sound cheerful." My dad replied, sarcastically. "Oh, sorry Dad. Hey." I said. Dad chuckled. "Hi. I was just calling to check on you, I guess. I haven't seen you or Jaycob since after my heart attack." I thought back to the hospital, seeing my dad like he was. Kells being right by my side. I finally had my dad and the love of my life. That's all I ever wanted, and one of those things may not be mine for long...."Lacy?" My dad said, trying to capture my attention. I snapped out of it. "Oh sorry." I said. "You remember Summer, right?" I asked. "Yes, your best friend." I nodded. "Yeah. Her and I are in Malibu, California at the moment. We won't be back for a week. But I promise Jaycob and I will come see you when I get back." I said. "Your fiance told me about that. He told me the two of you aren't on the best terms as well." I gulped. "What do you mean he told you?" I asked. "I got his number a few days after getting out of the hospital, and you haven't been answering your phone, so I called him. I hope you don't mind." He said. "No, I don't mind." I said. "He tells me your struggling with his lifestyle." Dad said. "Yeah. I am." I said. Dad paused. "Do I believe that being with someone so...broadly known...is hard? Yes. But you're a strong girl. I unintentionally made you that way. I believe you can see through this stuggle and I believe you and your fiance can come out together and happy. I know you don't like me mentioning your mother, but she always said that's everything she wanted for you." I nodded. "Thank you, Dad." I said. "You're welcome. I'll get off here and let you and Summer enjoy Malibu. Call me when you get back so I can see you and Jaycob, and please be careful." I nodded. "Okay dad. I will." We hung up. Summer and I left the restaurant and headed to our hotel. As soon as we got there, I sat all my stuff down and jumped in one of the beds. Summer got in the other. Both of us dozed off to sleep.
