Harry's POV: (3:13 PM)
"Thanks love" I winked at the cute waitress while picking up my drink. She giggled and waved goodbye. I raised my hand and walked out, sipping the apple juice. The bell on the door jingled as I stepped out into the cold weather. Nothing like European weather that doesn't make me wanna rush home. But I had an audition today that my mum had bothered to drive me to Manchester (which was an hour away). This could change my life and I was... late.
"Crap," I murmured, my fears increasing. I had ten minutes to get back to the X Factor building and I still needed to go through security and other stuff.
As if on cue, my mobile buzzed.
Get your arse back here, or you'll be late for your audition!!! >:( - Mum
I sighed and began texting her back, not paying attention to where I was walking.
Lilac's POV: (3:01 PM)
"Well, we're going on a ten minute break for the judges. Take a bathroom break or grab a snack and come straight back. Don't miss the rest of show!" Olly, the host, announced. When I heard loud clicking steps of men shoes leave the stage and people getting up, I myself stood up and stretched a little.
"So what do you think of the talent up till now?" Jill, my best friend, asked, her voice coming up from the floor. She was sitting upside down, I could tell. It was a frequent hobby of hers and I'd grown accustomed to it, but I could tell others weren't. The people in the row behind us were grumbling about Jill's legs nearly hitting them, but I couldn't care less. Images were flashing in my mind.
Carrots.
Forks.
A dish of food.
A bottle of hairspray.
Curly hair and....
A boy?
His picture flashed several times, all in different poses. The last was of him... singing. I knew what I had to do now.
"Lili? What's wrong? Do you feel sick or something? We could leave... Oh-" Realization hit her and I heard her lips smiled knowingly. "What do I need to get you?"
"Pictures of a carrot, a fork, a dish of food, a bottle of hairspray, and curly hair. JUST the hair. Not a head," I mumbled, already heading towards the exit, tugging my dog, Peace, with me. I heard Jill giggle at my urgency, but she still turned to find a computer and printer in the building.
My cane was already tapping down stairs. But I felt Peace nudge me, signaling the last step. It was the phrase I hated to use most. I only used it for desperate times. And I knew in the back of my head that this was one of those times.
Cursing inwardly, I said aloud, "I'm blind. Someone help me find the exit." I heard a quick scurrying of steps. "I'll help you," I heard a male voice say.
"Thank you," I said, flinching when the boy held my arm and guided me to the door like a little girl. It was one of those times when I just hated being blind.
"You gonna be alright?" he asked when the door clicked open, letting in fresh air, which was a new change from the sad desperation and sweat of the auditioners.
"Yes," I said quickly, stepping away from him. My mind was working quickly. More pictures flashed in my mind. A boy. Apple juice. "Chav," I whispered harshly. I might not make it in time.
"Peace." I heard the dog's head flip towards me, alert and listening. "Five blocks... to the right." I was supposed to be heading towards a small cafe that served drinks and desserts. She barked and tugged on the leash. I started walking, trusting my dog's direction.
The walk wasn’t long because most people swerved away from a blind girl wacking around with her cane and a dog that growled at anything that wasn’t her owner. The pluses of being blind.
Then I heard his voice, distinctly. My mind flashed his picture again. He was fairly handsome, but the hair was... interesting. It was curled, but seemed so natural. How that was possible was a mystery. I filed that thought for later and tapped for a nearby pole. When I heard the cling of metal, I stood in front of it and waited, signalling Peace to sit quietly. Nobody bothered me as I slipped on sunglasses, as the sun was still burning brightly to my eyes.
“Crap,” he repeated. I heard the clicking sound of a mobile typing. I heard it, fifteen feet. Ten feet. He was going to bump into me if he didn’t stop. I heard the slurping of a drink. And he was going to ruin my new sweater. I pulled the cane from my bag and shortened it. Holding it out in front of me, I positioned it so it would rest on the middle of his chest. 1, 2, 3...
*Bump* “Hey, watch where you’re going, you bloke!” I heard him say.
“Who you calling a bloke, berk?” I shot back, smiling.
“Oh, sorry, you’re a girl,” he apologized, probably seeing my long, brown hair and feminine features. “I gotta go, running late-” I heard him step away, but I motioned him to stop.
“You auditioning for X Factor?” I asked. He stopped, shocked that I got it right.
Harry's POV: (3:15 PM)
“You auditioning for X Factor?” the girl asked me. I stopped and stared at her.
“Yeah, but I really got to go,” I said slowly, starting to walk again. But she stuck out her little stick, and I stopped.
“What are you singing?”
“Why should I tell you?” I was getting irritated. I was going to miss my audition if she kept stopping me for useless questions. She smiled even wider, but it was more upset than happy. She pulled off those sunglasses of hers and stared at me, but not exactly. But that didn’t matter. The color of them was... amazing, to say the least. The mix of red and blue was astounding, turning the irises into a dark shade of purple. I’d never seen eyes like those before.
“Now, what were you singing?” she asked again.
“Ehm... ‘I Just Called to Say I Love You’ by Stevie Wonder,” I replied quickly, getting lost in those eyes.
“And you think that’ll work with your voice?”
“What?” I was confused, but she didn’t miss a beat with her response.
“Too slow. You need something faster to sing.” She paused, thinking. “What about ‘Isn’t She Lovely’? You know that one?” I nodded, playing over the lyrics in my head. Isn’t she lovely, isn’t she wonderful?
“Good, sing that one. It’ll work-” She stopped, as if to think over it. “It will work,” she said firmly, nodding her head.
“Wait- why?”
“Do you want to win X Factor?”
“Yes,” I responded quickly.
“Then listen to what I say.”
“Why?”
“Trust me. I have the best judgement.” And with that, she started walking away.
“Wait!” I called out, my legs stuck to the ground. She turned around, her purple eyes piercing me again. “Can I see you again?” I asked. She smiled.
“I’ll be in the audience.” She continued walking, and I played those words over and over. I’ll be in the audience.
And you know what? I trusted her.
