“Where are we going?” I ask sweetly.

“California,” Cole answers, annoyed.

“Ooh.”

“Stop leaning on me.”

“No.”

“Kylie, I swear-”

“No.” Cole takes a step to the side making me nearly fall over. “Hey!”

“I told you.”

“No you didn’t,” I reply annoyingly. “I don’t like you.”

“Too bad,” he says tightly. “You’re still stuck with me. And I’m still stuck with you,” he mutters under his breath.

I elbow him in the ribcage. It takes a moment for him to react. When he does, I grin, my smile showing how hyper I’d gotten from a soda and two packs of Skittles. I race off around the airport waiting area, tearing between rows of seats and weaving between suitcases. Cole quickly gains on me and I squeal, finding the nearest person, Will, and using him as a bodyguard.

Will glances warily at me. “No way,” he decides, stepping away.

“Traitor,” I hiss as Cole catches me. My brother starts to tickle me. I wriggle to get out of his grip, but he’s got me pinned. He only stops when I start to shriek with laughter, suddenly aware of the amused, captive audience. He gets up and dusts off his hands before he walks away. I’m left trying to catch my breath, red-faced, curled up on a padded seat.

“That’ll teach you,” Cole says as he joins his laughing friends.

I get up shakily and steady myself before creeping up behind Cole. He doesn’t notice I’m there. I jump up and wrap my arms around his shoulders, stealing a piggy-back ride from him.

“Shit,” he curses. “Get the fuck off, Kylie!”

“No,” I remind him, refusing to let go even after he shakes me a bit. I won’t budge.

The other boys snicker and I grin at them. “Howdy there.”

Just then, it’s time to board the plane and I unwillingly slip off Cole’s back. He gasps with relief, glaring at me. “You’re gonna pay.”

I give him a devilish look and sprint to get my luggage and join the band as they board the plane.

On the plane, we found that I got the window seat, Dana got the seat next to mine, and the others sat in the center aisle. Gabe sat on the other side with their bodyguard.

“What’s up, Dana?” I ask cheerily as we buckle in.

He eyes me uncertainly. “Nothin’. Wassup with you?”

I grin. “One soda and two packs of Skittles. I’m great!”

He clears his throat. “Remind me to never let you near sugar.”

“And caffeine!”

“Remind me to never let you near sugar or caffeine,” he repeats, rolling his eyes.

“Okay, I’ll remind you,” I reply and yawn. “Ignore me as I take a nap. Don’t be too loud.”

“I’ll try not to make any unnecessary noises,” he says sarcastically as I drape an airplane blanket over myself and curl up facing the window.

“Mhm,” I murmur. He doesn’t speak to me after that and I fall asleep to the voices of IM5 singing and laughing.

5pm

“Wake up.” I feel a shove on my shoulder. “We’re in LA. If you don’t wake up, I’ll call Cole over.”

“Nrmph,” I groan, my eyes still glued shut. I blush at the memory of how hyper I was before I’d fallen asleep. That was so un-me-like. I blink and notice that the plane is landing.

Dana glances at me uncomfortably and smiles. “Great, you’re awake. I thought you’d sleep through unboarding.”

“You offend me,” I mutter after a suppressed yawn. I rub my eyes and sit up, glancing around the airplane cabin. He nudges me and I scowl, slipping my Vans back on and tying them meticulously.

He stares at me. “Don’t take five days to tie your shoes. We are going to leave in…” he checks his watch, “two minutes.”

I stick out my tongue and finish tying my shoes. I grab my backpack and hug it tightly. “I’m done,” I retort. “Now you can’t bug me.”

He snorts. “Okay then.”

LAX is busy and big when the boys and I rush through. It’s mostly no hassle and they only get stopped by one fan. We arrive at the grand hotel in awe of the city. The streets outside are filled with pedestrians, restaurants, and posh shops. I squeal, tugging on Cole’s arm.

“Can we go shopping? Please?” I beg, making puppy eyes.

He glares at me and tries to shake me off. “No. We need to put our stuff in our rooms.”

“After?”

“You can go. We’d rather not go shopping.”

“What are you talking about?” Will exclaims sarcastically. “Of course we’d love to go shopping! Right, Dana?”

He elbows Dana, causing him to pout. I giggled and I caught Dana’s eyes. He smiled sheepishly at me. I blushed.

Cole scoffed, bringing my attention back to my cause. “Can I?” I plead, gripping Cole’s arm more tightly and planting my feet on the ground. Unfortunately for me, the lobby floor is a smooth linoleum and Cole just drags me along.

“If you go by yourself.”

“Mom would kill both of us if I went alone.”

Cole groans. He gestures to me with his free arm. “Anyone want to take my sister shopping?”

Will and Gabe immediately avert their eyes and start their own secretive conversation. Dalton shrugs and shook his head, mouthing, “Sorry!” Dana rolls his eyes but the corners of his lips curl up slightly. “Um, I’ll go with her. Since, you know, I’m the only one here her age.” His cheeks flame up.

Cole gives him a thankful glance. “Thank you! Just- she’s kind of annoying, so-”

I punch the arm I’d been clinging to a few moments ago. “Excuse me?”

“You are annoying,” he replies, trying to look sincere.

I narrow my eyes at him and thrust my suitcases into his arms. “Here. Put them in our room!”

I spin around and push Dana out the door before Cole can say anything else.
