Later the same day, my brain really regrets that sugary, caffeine-pumped drink I’d just devoured, but my heart is really into it. As Dana and I prance out of the elevator on my floor (okay, I prance, he walks and watches me awkwardly), I belt out the lyrics to random songs at the top of my lungs.
“This is the story of a… girl! Who cried a river and drowned the whole world!” I sing, skipping and hooking my elbow with Dana’s. “And, and… this. Is. The. Part of me! That I never wanna ever, uh….” I frown, trying to recall the next line.
“You can’t just mash two different songs together,” Dana complains. “Third Eye Blind does not belong with Katy Perry.”
I stick my tongue out. “You do it all the time.” A My Chemical Romance song pops in my head. “Sing it for the boys! Sing it for the girls! Every time you lose it, sing it for the worl- mrph. Mrrmhrr! Durnurh!” I struggle to remove Dana’s hand from my mouth. “Errh!”
“Shut up!” He exclaims. “People are gonna complain. The hotel will kick you out!”
My eyes widen and I give him a pleading look. “Erh prrmurs errh wrrl brr kwuryurt.” He lifts his hand slightly. “Promise I’ll be quiet.”
Doubtfully, he assents and drops his hand. I break out into song again, although this time it’s whisper-yelled. “Hey, I just met you! And this is crazy! But let’s watch Teen Wolf! So don’t call me lazy!” I start sprinting, making it to the end of the hall and racing back before Dana even gets to my room door.
He just shakes his head at me. “Why am I even friends with you? Actually, the better question is- why did I even let you get a frappe?”
“You are friends with me because Teen Wolf is great and I have the room key.” I flash the card in his face and then unlock the door. Cole happens to already be in the room, sitting on his bed like he was waiting for us there the whole time. Which, considering events, he probably was.
“Hey, Dana, Kylie!” Cole chirps. “How was your coffee? Mine was awesome.”
I skip over and envelop Cole in a hug, then promptly fall over on the floor. “There goes my sugar high,” I inform the ceiling.
Dana looks between Cole’s hyperactive, scheming grin and my collapsed form. He throws his hands up in the air. “I’m so done with the Pendery family.”

Cole has made it a habit to sit between me and Dana any time we watch Teen Wolf. Now, Dalton has decided to join us in our daily television splurge. I sit cross-legged on the floor as Dalton, Cole, and Dana are spread out face down on the beds.
As I stare intently at the season one finale, Dana and Cole constantly pepper me with questions. "No! Spoilers!" I complain as Cole once again asks me what's going to happen. As I turn back to the screen, I see Scott McCall trying to hide from the angry Coach at the school dance and squeal, burying my face in a pillow I took from my bed.
"What?" Dana questions, curious. "What? Is something going to happen?" I just squeal in response. "Tell me," he whines.
"Just watch it!"
We stare at the comical scene that follows afterward, causing laughter among all four of us. As Scott makes his way to Allison, I nearly hyperventilate.
"What did you do that for?" TV Allison Argent asks when Scott kisses her.
I whisper the next line perfectly in sync with Scott. "Because I love you."
I scream happily into the pillow at the same time Dalton bursts out laughing. I glare at him. "Hey! What's so funny?"
He just continues to laugh hysterically. Every time his eyes land on either me or Dana, he just starts laughing harder. "Cant... breathe..." Dalton wheezes between laughs.
Dana's cheeks turn bright pink. "Good. You deserve to choke."
I blink. "I'm so confused."
Cole pats my head. "You would be, Ky." Then he jabs Dalton with his elbow to shush him. "Shut up about it or your eye will be blacker than your eyeliner."
Dalton wipe some laugh tears from his eyes and takes a deep breath. "Okay."
July 20th, 2013 - 5 p.m.
"Last one in’s a rotten egg!" Cole yells as he barrels into the hotel pool.
"Last one in’s a Cole!" I correct, racing past him.
"Ooh!" The rest of the boys chant. "Burn!"
I cannonball into the chlorinated water. When I resurface, I say, "That's okay. Cole has water to soothe the pain." I grin and splash as much water as I can at my brother. After we get in the water, Cole says, annoyed, "Why do you have to wear a bikini when you're with a bunch of boys?"
"Because I can. And I have a bikini body." I poke my soccer-inflicted toned tummy.
"And?"
"Because Anna told me to," I admit. "She was like, 'Wear this sexy swimsuit or die.' So I did. Because I don't really wanna die."
I dive underwater and swim off, leaving Cole in the dust- or more appropriately, bubbles. I resurface next to my best friend in the world (excluding Anna, of course) and tap him on the shoulder.
“Let’s play Chicken Fight!”
He shakes water out of his curly hair like a dog. “What’s-”
“I sit on your shoulders, someone sits on someone else’s shoulders, and then we try to make the other team fall down.”
“Okay.” Then, while looking away at the far wall, purposely avoiding my gaze, he says, “You look cute in that swimsuit.”
I push myself under to hide my blush. When I come up, we start rounding up the boys for Chicken Fight. First, it’s me and Dana against Cole on Will’s shoulders. I won. Then it was Dana on Dalton’s shoulders versus Gabe on Cole’s shoulders. Gabe won. The games continued until we heard a scream from the end of the pool deck.
