Rosie

It was the first day of senior year and I have never been happier to spend half of the day at school, out of this hellhole everyone calls home. I know it's must be a little odd for some of you hearing me say that I'm actually happy to be at school since 90% of the people I know hates school with burning passion. But I just can't stand living in this house after it caused most of my severe depression.

I look like a normal teenager, wearing jeans, a simple long sleeved purple t-shirt, and a pair of converse. But ever since my dad died, I've never been the same. I tend to shut people out and be alone as much as I can. To sum it all up, I'm a miserable loner. The situation gotten worse when my mom married some jerk named Jared. At first he was likable but it was all just a mask. When he got married to my mom his true colors showed, which was showing a lot. Like the fact that he's a drunken mess and mentally unstable. Time to time I figured out that he only married my mom for her money not because he loved her or anything. I tried many times to convince mom to leave him, get a divorce and a restraining order because who knows what that unstable dick would do. But she won't listen, she would only say "you don't know him the way I do." Or "he's in a lot of stress give him some slack."

Under a lot of stress my ass.

It's hard to make my mom understand since she's a lawyer, she was never home before eleven o'clock in the evening. But I know I can't change anything.

I took my schoolbag, slung it into my shoulder and immediately I winced. God, I'm stupid. That bruise has been there for the past week, how could I forget that?

I went downstairs carefully so I won't wake anyone up. I always went out early to escape mom and you know who. Don't get me wrong, I love my mom but it's just complicated. I took the car keys and head out to Alexis's house like I always do.

Her house is not too far away; it's only ten minutes away from mine. We sort of live in the same neighborhood. So ten minutes later I was at her driveway. Her house is a regular family house, white, two floors high, and the usual front and backyard.

I got out from my car and made my way to the front door. Knocking the door three times, I waited patiently for someone to open it. Soon, I heard footsteps and the door swung open showing Alexis or Lexi in bunny pajamas with her hair in the messiest bun the world has ever seen.

"Nice pj's." I joked.

"Shut up! You're always too early!" She complained.

"Is there a time when I'm not too early?"

"Obviously not, well c'mon in." She moved aside so I can come in.

She closed the door behind us and I can hear her mom with two other voices having a conversation in the kitchen.

"Is your brother and sister home?" I asked.

"Yup. They arrived last night." She confirms.

"Oh cool. It's been a while since I've seen them."

Her brother Nate and her sister Claire applied college at DC a year ago when both of us were on sophomore year. They're really great people to hang out with. I'm guessing they're visiting for a few days or weeks who knows they're pretty unpredictable.

"Are you gonna change or what?" I raised an eyebrow at Lexi.

"What? It's comfortable." She said in a puppy voice

I laughed at her; she always knows the way to boost my mood up every day.

We both walked to the kitchen. The smell of fresh fried bacon and eggs filled my nose. Lexi's mom was flipping some pancakes making me even hungrier. She saw me as Lexi and I enter the kitchen.
