"So, do you want to start working on that project now?" Jake asked as we exited history class. Turns out, our presentation topic is civil war.
"Sure."
"Okay, your place then?"
"No!" I said a little too quickly and loudly.
I will never be able to work at my house with jerk face lingering around and I refuse to bring a guy that I just met today to that place.
"Alright, then we'll work at my place," He said hastily.
I can tell that he's suspicious of my actions but he didn't say a word about it.
"Great, I just need to talk to Lexi for a minute."
"I'll be in the parking lot."
With that, I walked my way further down the hallway. I saw her putting and grabbing a few books in her locker as I made my way towards her.
"Hey Lexi."
"Hey, you wanna grab some coffee after this?" she asked.
"I can't. I've got some project to do which reminds me that I can't give you a ride home," giving her an apologetic smile.
"Nah it's fine, Nate is picking me up anyways. I need to go to the studio."
"You're going to Manhattan on school night?"
Lexi always wanted to be a DJ since freshman year so she got a job at this record studio in Manhattan that gives her the opportunity to perform at some events. A lot of people like her remixes so far, so she's been trying to make her own music.
"Yup, it's only an hour away. It's no big deal," she said.
"If you say so."
"What project are you even working on?" she asked.
"History. Didn't you get one too?"
"Oh right! I got paired up with Jenny and we decided to start working on it tomorrow. Who's your partner?"
"Jake."
"Who the hell is Jake?" Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"The 'mysterious guy' you saw at lunch," I emphasize.
"No. Freaking. Way." Her eyes widen in surprise.
"Yup, he's my partner."
"Are you sure you're gonna be working on that project?" She wiggled her eyebrows suggestively.
"Okay, that's my cue. See you tomorrow."
I turned and started walking towards the school exit. But not before Lexi shouted.
"Don't be a wimp!"
I rolled my eyes and shook my head. Lexi can be very determined when her mind is set on something.
By the time I got to the school parking lot, I saw Jake leaning against a tree. He looked incredibly handsome but there's also something that made him look very mysterious it's not the bad kind but it's something.
Deciding not to dwell on that thought longer I walked towards him.
"So, am I gonna follow you to your place or will you give me a ride?"
"Neither. You're going to give me a ride since my ride is still at the repair shop," he said.
"Okay."
I made my way to the spot where I parked my car with Jake following behind me. I got into the driver's seat while he got into the passenger's seat. The car ride wasn't that long, Jake lives in an apartment that wasn't that far away from school and it's also the same apartment that Casey, a girl from science class, lives.
