My Reality

His heavy, calloused hand came up my knee creeping to my behind. It slithered its way up my thigh like a serpent. I rapidly swallowed a few times fighting the bile in my stomach from crawling up my throat. It was becoming more difficult as his finger lingered around my hip possessively.

I look around adjusting my eyes to the dim lights that surround us. Smoke fills my lungs even though smoking is strictly prohibited. But this is a private club, none of these men care. They are above the law and in turn, can break it.

After many years of abusing our natural resources; pollution, theocracy, and Marshal Law rule. The majority of women and men alike are sterile and the unlucky few women who aren't being treated as sex objects and incubators.

This man owns me and we are to repopulate. It makes me sick to my core.

Suddenly, I feel him stiffen underneath me. Turning my head I watch a man approach us, he was obviously higher ranked than my captor.

Reluctantly releasing me, he shoved me off his lap and stood in attention.

"Lieutenant General!"

"Colonel." He tipped his head but only stared at me. "At ease. I understand this is your handmaid ..."

My possessor roughly took my arm, tugged at it forcing me to sit. "Yes sir." He interjects quickly.

"I'm sorry to inform you but she's to be mine."

"There must be some kind of mistake, Lieutena-"

"Does it look like I make mistakes, Colonel?"

"I-I think not-" He ran an impatient hand through his balding head. "But I paid for her." He snarled.

The General reaches into his pocket and pulls out folded documents.

"It's all in here Colonel... You'll be handsomely compensated." He waves his hand disparagingly never once looking at him. "You are dismissed."

Harshly taking the documents, he begrudgingly looks at me as if I was at fault for being taken away from him. My breath catches in my throat and I begin to tremble.

The General signals for me to get up. I couldn't, my legs wouldn't respond.

"I'm running out of patience girl! Put this on." He threw a respirator mask on my lap.

I nod and secure it around my face, then follow him out.

It's been a month since I've been in his home. He has not forced himself nor lifted a finger against me... I'm astounded by that fact yet I still tremble at his sight.

His eyes bore into my soul in a manner I cannot put into words. His presence is monarchial. When he walks into a room everyone awaits in wonder to hear what he has to say.

Feeling the clock will soon turn against me, I need to be quick but patient.

Flawlessly I must do as he says without raising suspicion. Trusting me, he'll lower his guard. When he does, I shall escape. For now, I'm at his mercy. For now, I'm one of the lucky few.

For now, I'm one of the lucky few
