Somewhere Down the Road

" Good morning... Uhmnn... Is Nikka there ?" Sunny tried to talk casually. The girl who opened the door was a bit surprised seeing her disheveled appearance. Of course, Sunny's aware of that but she didn't care if she looked like a mess. Her life's already messed up anyway...

"Uhmnn... Nikka's still on the church with her folks but she'll be home in about half an hour. Maybe you can come back later, or if it's okay with you, you can stay here in the porch and just wait for her." says the girl.

Sunny took a deep breath. She looked away... It was obvious she was so restless, she didn't know what to do. She was trying not to cry. "Half an hour? It's okay... I'll just wait in my car. I forgot it's Sunday, and she's at the church. Maybe that's why she wasn't answering my calls. " Sunny shook her head. " Thank you. I'll be in my car. Can you please tell her that I'm waiting for her? My car is parked there on the side. My name's Sunny, by the way..." Sunny tried to give the girl a little smile. It was hard doing that.

"Okay, I'll do that. Are you sure you're alright? Would you like something to drink?" asked the girl.

Sunny shook her head. "Thanks... But I'm fine. You don't need to bother."

The girl gave her a nod. "By the way, I'm Pearly Jhean. But you can call me Pearl. I'm Nikka's cousin, and I'm staying here for a few days. I'm just visiting from the Philippines. " Pearl didn't know what to do if she would extend her hand to Sunny for a handshake. It was kinda awkward since she saw how Sunny looked so miserable. She knows there's a problem and she's not okay. She just gave Sunny a smile instead.

" It's nice to meet you ,Pearl. I'm sure Nikka would love having your company since there's no school. Anyway, I'll go ahead and just stay in my car. " says Sunny.

"Okay, Sunny. Don't worry, Nikka's gonna be here in a little while." Pearl said. Sunny just nodded, then she turned her back. Pearl closed the door. She immediately sent Nikka a text message to let her know that Sunny is waiting for her at the house. Then out of curiosity, she peeked through the window. She saw Sunny now in the car, with both her hands covering her face. She was leaning back on her seat. And it looked like she was crying hard. Pearl took a deep breath. Her heart sunk... Sunny was a total stranger, but she saw it in her eyes, that she was a kind person. And she obviously needed a friend. Pearl didn't think twice anymore. She got out of the house...

A gentle knock on her window made Sunny look on her left side. She wiped her tears away. Pearl was motioning for her to open the window.

"Sunny , are you okay? I'm sorry... I don't want to be nosy, but it bothers me a lot seeing you cry and Nikka's not even here yet. Do you want to talk about it? It's okay if you don't feel like talking to a stranger like me. But I believe sometimes it's better if you do that. No judging, no inhibitions... a carefree conversation just to help relieve you from your misery. " Pearl was just waiting... If Sunny would say yes, then she'll be thankful. But if she says no, of course she'll understand and just leave her be.
