Nebula steers the ship down closer to the tall buildings, the cloaking shield up. Her eyes glance down at the blinking digital map on her lap and then back up. That map is supposed to help her locate this Kyra through her DNA. Nebula has no idea how her farther got Kyra's DNA and has no plans on finding out.

That strange woman's visit has set her farther into a frenzy ever since. He is now obsessed with finding this Kyra before Loki does. He claims that it's only because he needs her to yield the stones for him but Nebula has her theories.

Leaning her head back into the head of the seat, a sigh escapes her. This really is quite boring. A locate and retrieve mission? The Great Nebula is better than this. She should be on the front lines leading her father's army, not locating some girl. Nebula laughs to herself, she bets that the girl will faint at the sight of her. Most people either run or faint at the sight of her discolored skin and robotic parts. That is usually the last thing that they do before Nebula kills them.

The map says that Kyra is located in the building just ahead of where Nebula is right now. She parks the ship on the roof of the building beside the one Kyra is in. Standing, she walks to the back of the ship and exits. The cold wind hits her skin and she shivers. Stupid weather.

Nebula approaches the edge of the room and brings binoculars to her eyes. Flipping a switch, the scenery turns a dark blue and then red shapes appear. Red shapes in the forms of humans. The binoculars begin beeping at the sight of a female figure lying on the ground. She pulls away the binoculars and squints at the window of the room Kyra is in.

There, she can make out a figure sleeping in a bed and another on the floor. Her hands drop down to her side and lands on the gun at her hip. She takes in this mysterious Kyra, noting her dark brown hair, pale skin, and lean figure.

Nebula aims the gun at the sleeping Kyra, her finger hovering over the trigger. She told her father that she wouldn't kill Kyra but she never said she wouldn't injure her. Plus, perhaps the girl will run and give Nebula a little bit of a challenge.

Nebula pulls the trigger but no shot goes up, the gun doesn't even jump in her hand. Kyra remains on the ground fast asleep, unaware of the danger lurking on the rooftop. Nebula blinks. What the? She looks down at the gun to see her finger frozen in place. No matter what she does, she can't pull the trigger.

Snarling, Nebula curses the gun and tries again and again but her finger won't budge. It's as if her coding is preventing her from pulling the trigger but why? She's never before had a problem with shooting someone. Why now?

Then, movement comes from the room and Nebula watches with hate filled eyes as Kyra stands. Slowly, Kyra turns her head and stares at Nebula. The two women lock eye contact and freeze. A face flashes before Nebula's eye but she pushes it away, far away. She's not ready to open that door and probably never will be.

"It can't be," she whispers.

*************************

"Mommy! Come look at what I did!" I shout, but it isn't me. This is young dream me.

My mother walks towards me, her long hair undone. Her long lavender dress trails the ground behind her as she walks towards me. The scenery around her is blurry but I know that it's bright yet also dark. Where am I? But it's as if I've been thrown into the passenger seat and am strapped in.

My mother smiles at me. "What did you do?" she asks.

"I finished!" I say proudly. Finished what?

My head turns to look at a limp figure lying down on a golden table. The figure is about my size and has no hair. It has three different shades of blue and is wearing a dark maroon bodysuit. If you look close enough, you can see the cracks in the joints from where the robotic limbs have had to come together.

I smile proudly at the figure. "What do you think, Mommy?"

A deep throaty laugh comes from behind my mother and I. The newcomer is male, extremely tall, and very thick. He's wearing gold and purple but the colors mix together and I can't see his face clearly. Another figure, a hologram of a giant head comes up beside the male figure. The homograph seems to be filled with all of the colors in the rainbow but the eyes are a light blue.

"I think it's wonderful," the male figure says in that deep voice.

My smile only grows as he gets down on one knee, still towering over me, and kisses the top of my head. My mother watches with narrowed eyes that are filled with some deep and dark emotion in them that I can't place.

"What are you going to name it?" he asks me.

"Her. She's a girl," I say a little bit annoyed.

Leaning his head back, he laughs. "I'm sorry. I forgot that she was a she. So, what are you going to name her?"

My younger dream self looks back at the figure on the bed and whispers a name that I can't hear because everything becomes blurred. My head begins to pound and my blood boils. I awake with a start. The feeling of being watched hits me like a punch to the gut. Slowly, I stand and pear out the window at the next building's rooftop and freeze. There, standing in the cold, is a female figure. Her black eyes find mine and lock.

I don't move. Who is she and how did she find me? Is she from HYDRA? My heart stops when she points the gun at me.
