Reason Number 3: Myra.
Myra is my best friend. But she's also my least favorite person. We get along some days, and then the other days we will avoid each other at all costs. There's no in between. She causes me a lot of heartache and a lot of crying, but also a lot of laughs and excitement.
Five Months Ago
"Hey, I've been meaning to ask you," Pat, my boyfriend of a few months now, tells me randomly one day.
"What have you been meaning to ask me?" I muse, fiddling with his fingers that are interlocked with mine.
Pat goes to a private school a few towns over from here, so I'm not with him too often. When I am, I'm honestly very happy. We've been dating for almost five months now and it's going great. He's my first relationship, but it's working.
"What's going on with you and Myra?"
"What are you talking about?" I ask. Everything's been fine with me and Myra.
"She was texting me and it was really weird," He states. "First of all, at that party like last weekend, she basically tried to hookup with me. I didn't think anything of it because I wasn't really sure what it was, but after those texts I'm reconsidering it."
"What'd she say in the texts?" I ask.
"That you were gonna break up with me," He says. "But she said it in like weird terms. Like, you were leaving me to go to her because she wanted it more? I don't know, Kenz, it was really weird."
"I'll talk to her about it tomorrow," I promise.
"Don't make things weird between you two," he tells me. "She was acting weird, but don't get too crazy. You are best friends, so don't go overboard."
"Don't worry."

I brought it up with Myra, and just acted like it was a joke. She says she was joking, and I take her word for it. There was probably just a miscommunication in the tone of her voice between Pat and Myra.
Now, we're on the beach. Pat is friends with some of our guy friends; it's really how he and I met. So, a bunch of us including Pat, Myra, Bruno, Jay, and a few others are at the beach today since it's such a nice day out.
A few of us went in the water, but Myra and Pat got out a few minutes ago to continue laying in the sun.
"I think I'm gonna get out, too," I decide after dunking under the water once more. "I'm kinda of hungry."
"I'll come with you, I need a snack too," Jay says. We say bye to the couple of people that are left in the water and we head into the sandier spaces. "It's hotter than I thought it was going to be today," Jay says, making small talk as we walk back to our station in the sand.
"Yeah, me too," I agree. "I thought it was supposed to be warm obviously, but this is like hot."
"Uh, why don't we go back in the water?" Jay stutters, grabbing my hand and tugging me back in the direction of the water.
"What? No," I deny, trying to tug my arm back. "What are you doing?" I attempt walking again.
"No!" He yells. "Look at Bruno! Hey, Bruno, over here!"
