Reason number four: Pat
Pat was my boyfriend of eight months. He was the only guy that I've ever "liked". But, I didn't love him. We said the whole "I love you" thing to each other, but there's no part of me that meant any of that.
The thing with Pat is that he made my life the best it had ever been for those seven and a half months. After those seven and a half, he made my life living hell. I had never thought of him as a bad person, but after the seven and a half months, I knew that he was worse than almost anyone else.
Exactly one year ago
It's a Friday night. Sophomore year. There's a few of us hanging out at Teddy Brown's house. Teddy is nearly the richest kid in town, so usually when we're like a group, we go to his house. Here, there is me, Myra, Bruno, Jay, and Teddy.
Myra and I tend to hang out with guys more than girls. I personally find that having only one girl friend and the rest being guys is relatively drama free and usually ends up in a better position. This way, I still have Myra to be my girl best friend that can be here for me for my rants and girl talks, but then I have these guys as my friends.
Truthfully, Jay is like the only one that I actually like. It's always been this way. Bruno is an asshole sometimes. He's just ignorant and obnoxious sometimes. Sometimes he can be really great and a good friend, but other times he's beyond annoying. Then, there's Teddy. Teddy is very obnoxious. Like Bruno, but at least ten times more. The thing that annoys me most about Teddy is that since we hooked up once at a party around two months ago, he keeps trying to get with me. Every time I walk by him, he grabs my ass. He's constantly trying to do things with me and I don't want to take part in it with him.
"Can we order some food or something, Teddy?" Bruno complains.
"Sure, go for it," Teddy replies. "I'm waiting for my friend, too. I kinda forgot to mention, I invited someone else."
"Who?" Myra scoffs. We like to act like we're all great friends and we don't need anyone else. It's not really true, but it's funny to act like it.
"Pat Zucker," Teddy explains. "He's on my club baseball team. He goes to come fancy private school a few towns away but he lives here."
"How old is he?" I ask. Maybe there could finally be some cute guy that we're friends with. You know, that's a good age for us.
"He's a junior," Teddy says. "He's one year older but he's really cool."
Oooh, an older guy. Let's hope his looks get up to the par, too.
"He's here, I think," Jay narrates, since he's sitting next to the window. Right on cue, the doorbell rings but Teddy doesn't bother getting up from his position on the couch.
"It's open!" He screams.
"What if that was a robber?" Jay teases. "You're just gonna let the whole world into your unlocked house, not knowing who it actually is?"
"Well, I knew that Pat was coming. If he wasn't then I would've checked," Teddy shrugs.
"Dude, Jay, he lives in a gated community!" Bruno exclaims, causing a laugh from me and Myra. "There are cops in the booth just to come down his street. I doubt many burglars are strolling up to the front door."
"Sorry that I don't live in the safest part of town like this gated community," Jay chuckles. "Before we were friends, Teddy, I wouldn't even know what a gated community is."
"Same here," I second with a laugh. Just coming over to Teddy's house is a completely different world compared to my house.
"Hi," A guy says, walking into the living room.
