Chapter 3
A/N: I'm changing Mason and Madison's age to five...I guess seven maybe a little too old for being carried and acting all cute!
By the time the family got home from the game, it was late 10 and Mason and Madison had school the next day. The only problem was, the twins were totally bouncing off the walls from the amount of chicken fingers and fries and soda at the game. Not to mention how loud the stadium was; CenturyLink Field, known to reach decibel levels of a jet engine.
"Mommy, I'm not tired!" Mason whined as Ashton set him and Madison in the bubble bath.
"I know you aren't right now, but after this warm, bubble bath, you'll be knocked out," Ashton laughed to herself and began to wash them. "You guys are stinky."
"That's Mason!" Madison screeched pointing to her older brother. "He had to go and put on Daddy's stinky helmet, now his whole head stinks!"
"That is you, Mason." Ashton chuckled. "Looks like you were caught by the funk monster."
"Couldn't get away, could you?" Madison taunted.
"You would've gotten caught, too," Mason said.
"Not uh, I'm faster than you," Madison countered.
"But I'm stronger."
"And? You won't be able to stop me if I outrun you."
"You slip up once or slow down, and it is over for you!"
"Mommy, would you whether have speed or strength?" Madison questioned.
"I'm not doing this tonight," Ashton said as she lathered up her hand and began to wash Mason's curls. "You guys are very athletic."
"Mommy, can you please answer?" Mason begged.
Ashton smiled. "Well, I would have to say speed."
"Told you." Madison grinned.
"It's okay, buddy," Russell smiled as he walked into the bathroom with his pajamas on. "I rather have strength, too."
"You're a quarterback!" Madison giggled.
"So, does that mean I'll be a super cool, awesome quarterback like you, Daddy?" Mason questioned.
"Of course," Russell voiced.
"Daddy, can read us a bedtime story?" Madison requested.
"Sure," Russell left the bathroom to the twins' room. They had a medium sized bookshelf behind the door; it was filled with books such as"Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See", "The Giving Tree", "Green Eggs and Ham", "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!", "The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs!", and etc. Not being able to choose a book, Russell waited until they were done so they could choose a book. Less than five minutes later, Madison and Mason ran in giggling non stop; Madison had on a pink and white stripe top with matching pants as Mason was decked out in his blue version.
"We made a bubble mustache on Mommy!" They exclaimed together. "We didn't get a picture, though."
Ashton walked in with the top of her shirt soaked but a small smile played on her lips.
"I'm sad I missed it," Russell frowned but he was trying not to smile.
"I looked like a Santa Claus," Ashton giggled.
"I bet you were a cute Santa Claus," Russell smirked making Ashton blush.
"I am going to get a shower before I get a cold," Ashton laughed. "Before I go to bed, a kiss for mommy?"
"Of course!" Mason shouted, running over to her. Ashton bended down and place a small kiss on her son's cheek followed by Madison. Ashton stood up fully and was surprised by a peck on the lips by Russell. This makes her blush even more and the twins giggled.
"Good night, babies," Ashton said.
"Good night, mommy," the three said.
"What book do you want Daddy to read you?" Russell asked as he picked up Mason and Madison. He placed Madison on her bed first and Mason on next. They both curled up in the covers while staring intently at their father.
Mason sat up slightly before requesting, "Can you tell us how you met Mommy?"
Russell smiled at the question before pulling up a chair in between the two beds. He sat down and began his story.
"It was eight years ago years ago," he beamed. "I was still in college and your mother volunteered at the hospital. It was after one of my college games and I got sacked so hard that I cracked my rib."
The twins gasped and cringed.
Madison was the first to speak up. "Did it hurt?"
"It did," Russell nodded slightly. "Then, I was escorted out of the game. Once they confirmed that I broken my rib, they took me to the hospital."
"Luckily, your mother was my nurse, and I thought she was the cutest girl I ever seen," Russell said thoughtfully.
"Ooh, Daddy was in love!" Mason giggled.
"Besides her looks, she was always fun to talk to even though we were complete opposites. I had already volunteered at the hospital already, but I never seen her. So, i changed my visiting hours to the same as her working hours. She would too come with me and greets the children in the hospital. It was a very memorable time seen children happy with the one I liked. Then, I would have lunch with her everyday. We would talk so much that we forgot the time. Several times, I almost got her fired."
"When did you ask her out?" Mason questioned.
"It was December 21st," Russell grinned. "And we were coming back from having coffee when I blurted out, 'would you be my girlfriend?' "
"She said yes!" Mason jumped.
"Nope," Russell laughed. "She had to get permission from her father, and after dinner with them, her finally accepted me. Everyday, we would spend the night and day together when I wasn't on the field or at school."
"What school did Mommy go to?" Madison questioned.
"A college about an hour from mine," Russell answered. "After about two years of dating, I asked her to marry me. This time, she said yes. And a year later you guys were born."
"Here we are now, five years later," Mason yawned as Madison rubbed her eyes.
"I'm sleepy," she said closing her eyes.
Russell stood up and returned the chair before kissing both of his kids on the cheek. "Good night. babies."
"Night, Daddy," they smiled. "Love you."
Russell excited the room and going to his own. Ashton put her book down as he climbed into bed.
"So, what book did you read them?" Ashton smiled.
"A story that will definitely be published," Russell started. "How I Met Your Mother."
