Chapter Seven
Madison rolled around in her bed as she began to wake up. Her long curls were tossed in front of her face and slob coated the corners of her mouth. She wiped the substance from her mouth before trying to fall back asleep. After ten minutes of failure to getting back to sleep, she flipped over onto her back; she was fully awake.
Madison turned to look at her brother before grabbing the white pillow from under her head and launching it at her twin brother. Mason whimpered as it hit him in the face. He jolted awake while yelling, "What's the big idea, Maddie?!"
"I can't sleep," Madison whined to her brother.
"Now I'm up, too," Mason mumbled before yawning. "Well, what do you wanna do?"
Madison go up from her bed before going over the their closet. She opened it and grabbed both of their custom made helmets. "Let's go stair surfing!"
"Okay!" Mason agreed as he took his helmet from his sister and put it on.
Next, they grabbed a rectangle laundry basket from the hallway closet. They covered the bottom with each of their bed covers before placing their matching Despicable Me minions in the front of the basket. They both began to push the basket to the top of the stairs. Madison got in first near the minions as Mason still was in the pushing position.
"I'm going to jump in after I begin to push the basket," Mason told her making her nod.
Mason pushes it until Madison's half was off the floor and over the stairs. He let go of the basket, letting it fly forward. Mason jumped into the back portion making it go faster.
"We have to steer!" Madison giggled in the midst of the fun and excitement. The two grabbed onto the sides of the basket, and once they made it to the spiral part of the stairs, tilted the basket to the right. Once they reached the second spiral, Mason and Madison used too much force to turn right causing them to flip over. The two let go of the basket so they wouldn't go soaring all the way down the stairs; instead, they bumped themselves on only a few stairs. They sat on the stairs, their eyes on the brink of tears as the pain in their butts began to register.
Russell had gotten up immediately once he heard the loud clacking. He stopped to listen to it to see where it was coming from, and he concluded it was coming from the stairs. He got up immediately before going to the stairs only to see his toddlers in total distraught.
"What happened?" Russell asked in disbelief. He looked at the laundry basket, to the helmets, back to his children. "You guys did not..." Russell never yelled at his kids nor made a certain facial expression when he was angry. He would always give them a certain stare until they told him what he wanted to know. And this was a prime example.
Russell crossed his arms over his chest and stared at the two sobbing children who sat on the stairs, looking up at their dad with puppy dog eyes.
"We're sorry, Daddy," Mason weeped first. "We just wanted to try it."
"And you two thought that was a good idea?" Russell questioned casually. "Who's idea was it?"
Mason and Madison stared at each other before Madison said shakily, "M-Mine."
Russell began to walk down the stairs and into the living room. "Come here, you two."
Mason and Madison got up from the stairs and followed Russell into the living room. Russell sat down in the middle of the couch and they sat down on each side of him. Russell put his arms around them and took off their helmets, setting it on the ground. "What hurts?" He questioned.
"My butt," Mason and Madison say at the same time.
"You guys know better right?"
"Yes," they mumbled.
