When I had been brought back to reality, I noticed Dave and Steve had left. but someone else was sitting in the chair next to my bed. it was my Mom, oh how happy I was so see her face again. "Hi sweetheart." My mom said, trying to hide her tears. You could tell she'd been crying for hours by the black mascara below her blue eyes. She place her cold fingers on my forehead then grabbed my hand, "You're gonna be able to Come home tomorrow, as soon as I pick you up we'll go straight to.." she paused and took a deep breath looking towards the blank white wall in front of me then tried fixing her sentence, "Go straight to Jacks funeral."
"Funeral?" I thought. I took my eyes away from my mom and looked outside the hospital window. "How many people do you think die everyday, Mom?" I asked.
"Thousands. Maybe millions." She answered.
"And Jack had to be one of those thousands or millions." I said sniffling looking at the moving cars and the still trees outside my window.
*Knock* *Knock*
"Come in!" My mom shouted. A nurse in pink scrubs opened my door with my lunch. "Alright sweetheart I'll be back at 8:00am tomorrow to pick you up." My mom rubbed my hand one last time and kissed me on my forehead, just as Jack used to do. And on her way out, she stopped at the door and said "I love you." just as Jack used to do when he dropped me off at my house after late night dates. Everything reminded me of him.
The nurse sat the lunch on my lap, "Enjoy baby girl!" she said with a smile. I smiled back, and then looked down at my not so gourmet lunch of a green apple, a ham and cheese sandwich, and cart of milk.
"Wow," I thought, "I can't wait to get out of here"
*Jacks funeral?! How do you think that's gonna go?*
