Positif

Through all the struggles of having Aspergers, I have found a lot of positive things to being an Aspie. These are just a few.

I am loyal. I will listen to you, keep your secrets, be a person you can depend on. I would run into a burning building to save you.

I am not inclined to lie. If I tried to, you could tell instantly. I am honest to a fault, even when you don't want me to be (i.e., does this dress look good on me?).

I will not judge you, and I will accept your idiosyncrasies, personality and characteristics. One of my best friends has a lisp, and I think her voice is so beautiful. I have a lot of Deaf friends - they don't judge me, and they are smart and creative. One of my little cousins is blind, and I love to hang out with her because she "sees" things in a unique way.

I remember little details about people and things. I might not remember your birthday, but I will remember your favorite color, quote, number, food, activity, movie, book, the outfit you wore the first day I met you...

I have an imagination the size of the universe. Which means I can conjure scenarios and their outcomes, picture what people are saying, and act with my friends.

I will follow rules to the letter. If you give me a rule, I will try my very best to stay within that rule. And I will make up rules for myself. Such as not listening to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving, and that the light switches must be turned a certain way (it drives me nuts because we have two switches in our hallway, and one must be down and the other must be up...in my world, anyway - no one else in my house follows this rule. XD)

I love routines. Routines keep my day from being crazy and unplanned. I do my school in the same order every day - Science, math, reading, extracurricular. I write in a journal every day. I make my bed the minute I wake up. And I do a million other things in a certain order every day.

I can solve riddles like nobody's business.

I am good at memorizing things. Perhaps that's why I am so good with languages - I can remember words and signs, and never forget them.

I am passionate and focused with certain interests. I will complete a job or not do it at all.

I try to encourage the people around me. I want everyone to feel comfortable, wanted, and liked because I expect that same courtesy from others.
