Hurry

"Why am I so tired all the time?" You grumbled quietly, biting back a yawn while you scrubbed the floor clean.

"T-Tired?" Petal worked next to you, as stutter-y as always. "What do you m-mean?"

"Just... Tired. I wake up and I'm achy and sore and I just want to sleep more." A yawn seemed to prove your point. "I don't get it. I've never had these kind of troubles before."

"D-Did it start kind of suddenly?"

"Yeah."

"Have you ever gotten sick in the mornings?"

"Uuhhh, yesterday, yeah. What's up Petal? Your stutter is gone... Petal?" She was shaking, gripping her rag so hard her knuckles were white. "Hey, what's up?"

"Y-You were limping before..." Her eyes widened in a sudden realization. "What does he do to you...?"

You turned away and went back to work. "That's not your problem."

"It most certainly is!"

You whipped your head around to look at her. For once she sounded... Assertive. She crossed her arms and glared at you, even though she was still visibly shivering.

"Y-You treat me like I'm a person! Like I'm a human being! A-And I... I care about you, so..." Her shoulders hunched and she mewled.

"Hey... Hey, it's okay." You gently patted her shoulder. "I didn't mean to snap at you, okay?"

She hugged you suddenly, gripping you surprisingly hard. "D-Don't tell anyone else okay? Th-They'll take you away, and then I'll be alone again..."

"What? Don't tell anyone what?"

"Th-That you're pregnant, of course."

Pregnant.

The word sent ice pulsing through your veins, but you had no doubt that it was true. 'Oh, Lee...' You thought. 'What have we done?' Of all the times. Of all the times for this to happen, it had to happen now. Of course it did.

You suddenly remembered your conversation with Lady Tsunade.

I'm not pregnant, if that's what you're worried about.

Who knew you could have possibly been so wrong.

You stood with your hands clasped in front of you. Gai said goodbye to Alder and Lee disentangled himself from Birch's hold, gently brushing aside the pretty boy's offer to stay the night with him.

As the three of you walked back to the inn, you tried desperately to hold back the words that bubbled in your throat.

Only when the door was shut firmly behind you and you were alone with Gai and Lee did you dare speak. "Gai..." Your voice came out as a whimper and he immediately went to you, Lee close behind.

They wrapped you in their arms, holding you between them. You started to cry, hating every tear that fell. You didn't cry much.

Lee put his head on top of your's and Gai put his on Lee's. You stayed that way until your tears finally started to dry up.

"Now..." Gai gently rubbed your back. "You wanna tell me what's up?"

"You do not have to." Lee grabbed your hand gently and squeezed it.

"I just..." You sniffed and wiggled you of their hold, kneeling on the ground and motioning for them to kneel in front of you.

They sat down and looked at you, waiting patiently. "Lee..." You held your hand out to him and he moved to your side, taking hold of your hand again.

"Gai, you have to hurry, we have to leave here, now!" You had to fight to keep your voice from screeching the words.

He blinked then his gaze softened. "(Y/N), sweetheart, what is this about?"

"Did someone touch you?" Lee's voice was a low growl and you had no doubt that he wouldn't hesitate to go and break the neck of anyone who dared to lay their hands on you.

"No... Lee, no, that's not it, I just..."

Gai gave a low growl, his hands fisted into the fabric of his kimono pants. "I knew you should have stayed behind. Why don't you ever listen to me?"

"It's not the treatment... I can deal with that. It's just..." You wrapped your arms protectively around your stomach, around the life that grew inside.

"I'm pregnant, Lee. I'm going to have your baby."

He was silent and you forced yourself to meet his gaze. You weren't prepared for the pure joy that burned in his eyes. Lee picked you up and spun you around, holding you close to his chest and laughing.

"That is wonderful (Y/N)! I am going to be a daddy!"

You heard Gai sigh. "And yet another reason I wanted you to stay in Konoha..."

"How long do you think it has been?" Lee looked so happy.

"Since before we left, I think..."

Gai sighed again. "So you lied to Tsunade..."

"I didn't know then, Gai." You whapped him lightly on the back of the head. "Do you really think I'd have gone if I had?"

"Honestly? Yes. You can't stand it when Lee is sent off without you, so yes. I think you would lie to be with him." He gave you a tired smile. "Don't take that badly (Y/N). I think it's sweet, how much you love each other."

Lee hugged you from behind, burying his face in your hair. "You do not have to worry, (Y/N). I will take care of you both. Always."

You leaned against him, allowing yourself to feel the happiness you'd held back. You were pregnant. You were going to have a baby.

"Thank you, Lee."

He hummed, laying his hands over your stomach. "And when we get home, we can get married. Then we will be a real family."

You turned your head enough to look at him. "Marry...?"

He flushed bright red. "I mean... If you want to that is..."

You laughed and managed to kiss him on the lips. "Rock Lee, do you have any idea how long I've been waiting for you to ask?"

He spun you again, joy simply radiating off of him. Gai picked you both up, his worry gone for the moment. "I'm going to be a grandfather!"

You decided to screw the rules. You slept in their room that night, tucked close against Lee's body.

Maybe some good came out of this stupid mission after all.
