Tommy's POV
I bolted up the stairs to wake up my family. "MOM, LEA,MONICA, AUNT JUDY WAKE UP!"
"What is going on!" Mom yelled.
"THER'S a TORNADO!"
I ran to turn the tv on, and to my horror our area was in the red zone with a tornado warning.
"Its headed our way" aunt Judy said.
"We could get in the car and drive south" mom said.
"And if it changes paths or back tracks?" I asked.
"We'll be fine."
We got into the car and drove in the opposite direction.
"If you see the tornado behind any lightning let me know" I called out to my family.
I made it six miles before I turned left onto the street that leads to town when the tornado crossed the road horizontally in front of us. I froze scared to back up in case it circled around. Once it passed I stepped on the gas. Breaking the speed limit by 20 miles per hour.
"Crap we lost it" lea said from the back.
"Tommy what do we do"
"I'm turning around and going home!" I shouted.
I turned around and headed home. I knew the tornado was out there somewhere I could hear the wind roaring. I just prayed that we didn't run into it on the way home. As soon as I pulled into the driveway I spotted it in the field behind our house. It was still, almost like it was playing with us, threatening to come our way. Suddenly I saw that it wasn't still it was coming for us. I ran to the front yard and opened the shelter making sure my family got in before me, once everyone was safely inside I hopped in and shut the door.
"It'll be all over soon" I whispered. Once We heard silence I opened the door and helped everyone out. The sun was peaking behind the hill. In the distance I saw the last remains of the tornado as it disappeared into the horizon. The damage wasn't too bad. It seemed as if everything was settling down. It's been a long summer but we have survived the storms. One day I will tell our story to the world and they'll know who we really are. We are, tornado Hunters.
