Phil is constantly pining for Popular!Dan, and Tyler is getting sick of it. He decides to try to get the two together. (750 words)

Warnings: Swearing, panic attacks

My school's prom was last week(I didn't go because I'm too smol) and I was inspired to write this. Enjoy!

"I told you, Lou. I'm not going."

"Dan, it'll be fun!"

"Who the fuck would I even go with, anyways?"

"You know every girl would kill for a chance to go to prom with you."

"Exactly. Every girl." Dan sighs and stares off into space. His deep brown eyes are still as beautiful as ever, his hair just barely curling at the edges. His tan skin is almost glowing-

"Earth to Phil," Tyler says, tapping me on the shoulder. Tyler is my best(and only) friend, and I've known him since kindergarten.

"Sorry, what?"

Tyler rolls his vivid blue eyes. "Have you been listening to a word I've been saying?"

"Oh, y-yeah, of course. You-you-"

"Oh, forget it! Too busy staring at Howell, as usual."

I feel my face heat up. "No," I deny weakly.

Tyler laughs, and then gasps. "Oh my god, you should ask him out!"

"Are you crazy? Me, asking someone out. Not just anyone either, Dan Fucking Howell! Excuse my language. Plus, he doesn't want to go anyways."

"Why not?"

"He didn't know who he would go with. Lots of girls wanted to go with him, according to Louise, but he said, Exactly. Every girl. It doesn't matter, he'd never go with me."

"Were those his exact words?"

"Yeah, why?"

"Philly, I think you may be in luck."

"What do you mean?"

"Not only is your dreamboat single, he's also gay."

"How did you get that? There's no way."

"It can't hurt to ask!"

"Actually, it can. I have to go."

"Don't think you're getting out of this!" Tyler calls behind me.

"I wouldn't dream of it," I mutter as I walk away.

"Are you sure this is a good idea, Ty? Me plus a party seems to equal nothing but disaster."

"Phil, it'll be fun. And don't forget, it's Dan's party.

"How could I forget," I huff. Tyler takes my hand and half-drags me up to the doorstep. It's a big house, purple with a little row of red flowers in the front that make my heart leap.

Tyler knocks on the door, and Dan opens it, looking a little drunk but more beautiful than ever.

"Hey guys! Come on in!" he calls in a voice a little louder than necessary.

I stumble after Tyler. There's music that I don't listen to blasting and lights flashing. It reeks of stale beer and I'm lost in a sea of bodies, Tyler disappearing into the fray.

I shout his name but the sound disappears in all the noise, just another hopeless cry in the dark.

Everything starts to blur. I'm breathing in and out, but no matter how fast I gulp down the stale air, I can't get enough oxygen. I can hear my heart thumping, can feel my palms sweating.

Tyler's back now, but all the sudden he's laughing and shoving me towards someone.

I run headfirst into Dan. "E-excuse me," I stutter.

"Phil wanted to ask you a question!" Tyler shouts over the music.

"I-I-it's stupid."

"What?!"Dan shouts.

That's when I snap. "I have a crush on you, okay?! A stupid fucking crush! And it makes my heart leap in my throat, and it makes me think about you all the time! And I hate it! And I wanted to ask you, will you go to Prom with me?! But that's a stupid question, because you'd never want to go with me!" And with that, I lunge for the door, wrenching it open and leaping into the lawn.

I gasp for air for a second. It as if I was underwater this whole time. Now that I can finally breathe again, I realize what I have done. He knows. He knows!

I start walking back to my car, humiliated. That's when I hear the door slam behind me.

"Wait!" I turn around. It's Dan.

"I-I'm sorry, I-"

"No, I just wanted to make sure you're okay."

"I'm fine," I sniff. "I never should have come to this party. I'm leaving, don't worry."

"I'm glad you came, Phil," Dan says, with a smile that shows a perfect round dimple.

"Really?"

"Really really."

I feel one drop, then another. It's starting to rain!

"Phil?"

"Yeah."

"Does your invitation still stand?"

"You-you still want to go to Prom with me? After all that?"

"I do."

Tyler comes running out. "Oh, I'm so sorry, Phil. I just wanted you to be happy and-"

"I think it worked out," I say, smiling at Dan. "But still, no more parties."

"No more parties," Tyler says, looking from Dan to me and clasping his hands together. "You two are so cute."

We blush.

"See you tomorrow night?" Dan asks. "I'll pick you up at 8."

"Deal," I say, and as I drive home that night, I can't wipe the smile off my face.
