Felix leaned back and turned a bright shade of red. He looked only at his feet, waiting for his response. Ryan stood in shock, unable to process what had just happened. He just stood there, pale and wide eyed.
"Oh, I should be going... I'll see you tomorrow..." Felix started to walk up his steps. Ryan yelled after him, causing Felix to turn around.
"What do you mean? The kiss? What did it mean?" Ryan stood in his driveway, ponderig the recent connection.
"It meant thank you. For everything. For everything you have done." Felix started to walk back down towards Ryan. "You have really... made my day a new beginning. And so, thank you... That's what the kiss was about."
He turned away and walked into his house, waving goodbye before disappearing. Little did Felix know that that very kiss was Ryan's first.
He slowly walked back to his car and started heading home. When he was almost at his house, he recieved a call from his mother.
"Hello?" Ryan answered, wondering why his mother was calling him at this time of night.
"Hi sweety! How have you been? I haven't talked to you in a while..."
"I know. How's Minnesota? And I'm fine, Mom. Really."
"It's alright... cold as usual... but I'm glad you're okay. I still don't understand why you left. There is nothing wrong with being here. Everyone keeps talking about you. Your friends all miss you terribly. You should come back home!"
"No, you just want me and that douche of a boyfriend of yours to talk things out. You know I lie to everyone, telling them you are down here too, just so they don't look at me like some sort of circus freak. I'm not coming home, this is my home now."
"Why not? He didn't do anything to you! All he said was 'you get a better school and get a job so I don't have to work so much'. It's not bad, he was just joking around, dear."
"You know what? I'm not doing this! Night. I'll call you when I get the chance." With that, Ryan hung up. He pulled into his driveway and saw Russ sitting on his steps, doing something on his phone.
"Hey friend, what's up?" Ryan pulled out his keys and unlocked the door, letting Russ step in front of him.
"Ken is fuming about how you stole Felix from him." Russ stated while making his wat to Ryan's couch. "He says you're going to pay. That you should be careful with who you mess with."
Ryan walked over and rolled his eyes, taking a seat next to Russ.
"Dude, look. I don't care what that Ken guy thinks or says. He just needs to calm down for a while. I'm not stealing Felix, him and I are just friends. Why can't he accept that? Look, I know you just want to help, friend. I know you really do. But right now, it's kind of bad timing." Ryan stood, walking into the kitchen and pulled out a beer can, wondering why he just said that.
'Stupid. Why did I tell him that?' He thought to himself.
"Well, what's going on? You know I wouldn't say a word unless you wanted me to. Why would I have any desire to do so? What's been going on man?" Russ stood, making his way to the kitchen, only to be stopped by Ryan.
"It's nothing. Look, you should go. Your mom could get worried. I also have a shit ton of homework to do. So, could you please leave?" Ryan didn't look at Russ, only hearing the door open and shut again gently.
Ryan was putting away the glasses from earlier, all of his emotions bubbling up inside of him. He turned around and whipped the glass at the wall, anger bursting through. Glass shattered into millions of pieces, covering the floor.
Ryan is now kneeling on the floor, feeling every emotion. Numb.
Broken. Just like the glass.
