Hiyori and Yato finally arrived at school heading to each of their lockers which were coincidentally next to each other. After placing what books they could take out later for their classes they both started wandering around the school for a while since class didn't start for another hour. The two liked to come into school early to have time to each other. It brought comfort in the two with just their presence. Time seemed so different when they're together; the world moves in slow motion but time always seems to pass by. It all felt like a dream to Yato whenever he spent his time with Hiyori.
They were currently under the cherry blossom tree; watching as the wind scattered the flower petals all around and some falling into Hiyori's hair. She didn't seem to mind and neither did Yato since she seemed to somehow look even more beautiful than she was already; his heart couldn't stop pounding against his chest at the sight of his best friend with cherry petals falling around her lying on top of her goddess-like hair; how badly had he wanted to touch them but he had to hold himself back so he wouldn't weird her out.
"Hey Hiyori, are you sure you don't mind those petals in your hair?"
He chuckled as he picked one out of her hair feeling a strand brushing lightly against his fingertips. He wanted to so desperately run his fingers through her hair and feel the softness of it but he knew he was forbidden to do so. Hiyori chuckled a bit at Yato's question. His face burned a bit from embarrassment and turned his head away so she wouldn't see his cherry red face.
"G-geez I know it was a stupid question but you don't need to laugh."
Hiyori's chuckle softened as she stopped and answered the male's question.
"I don't mind at all. I think cherry blossoms are very pretty. I love hanging out by the cherry trees."
'You're much prettier than those petals,' Yato thought as he wanted to say it to her but he didn't dare. But what she said next caught him off guard.
"I especially love hanging out with you under the cherry trees though."
Her cheeks were brushed with a tint along with yet another one of her significant smiles as the world seemed to have stopped yet again. The wind blew by them causing more petals to fall and flow near them. Yato felt so lucky to be experiencing her smile; the smile that he was only meant to see. Wait, what does he mean? That smile doesn't belong to him..he can't exactly say that it was only meant for him. He doesn't deserve such beauty and grace as Hiyori.
In his ears, he could hear his blood flowing and his heart thumping profoundly. He didn't know how much he could take this. Yato had to tell her how he felt but he was just so afraid of messing up the years of friendship that they have held onto. Before he could die from his beating heart the school bell rang signaling the students that classes are about to start and that they should be heading to their respective classes. Yato thanked God and stood up grabbing his bag and extending his hand for the female.
"Here. Grab my hand."
Hiyori reached her hand up grabbing Yato's as she was pulled up. Before they could leave back for the school, Hiyori suddenly pulled Yato into a hug.
Just like in his dream.
Yato was taken aback at the sudden embrace. He didn't know how to react at first; he seemed to have froze up. But soon he regained his composure and hugged the smaller female back. He took the opportunity to stroke through her hair. It was exactly as he imagined; it was soft and so smooth. Just like every other part of her. Her personality, her skin, her smile... God, why did he have to feel this way? Hiyori giggled a bit from the hair stroking.
"Haha. What are you doing Yato?"
He blushed after he noticed what he was doing and immediately stopped.
"I-I-I was just...you know...getting the petals out of your hair before we head into class."
Hiyori giggled again; God that sweet laughter. It was music to his ears. He always wanted to hear her laugh around him.
"I appreciate you looking after me Yato. Thank you."
She started brushing through her hair taking out the petals until she got all of them out.
"Done! Now let's head to class before we're late."
She went off ahead a bit leaving Yato behind with yet again his thoughts.
'Why me?'
Pushing aside the thought, Yato rushed off to be beside his best friend and head to class. How can he ever tell her how he actually feels?
