Songbird
I was the first to see Dragonfly's special ability. He calls it Soul Sync, and it allows him to see what's in his opponent's soul. Their reason for fighting or something like that. The guy is working himself to death. He was at my house trying to see how long he could hold it. The poor dear only lasted 45 seconds before blacking out. I carried him to my couch and set him down. When he woke up, he told me that it was a new record and that he'd keep working on it. On a bed or chair, of course. We wouldn't want him doing it where he could hurt himself.
I heard crying in the nearby bushes on the way home from Dragonfly's little get-together. "Hm?" I peeked through and found a little girl. "Oh my!" I exclaimed, picking her up out of the bushes. "You must be so scared! My name is Songbird. Never fear, my child, I--"
"Mama!" She crashed into me, wrapping her arms around me. "You're back!"
"I..." I looked at her. She looked to be only four or five. She had beautiful, Raven-black hair, big almond shaped brown eyes, and porcelain skin. She wore a sweater with a little sequin fish on it. I didn't have the heart to tell her that her mother wasn't there. "You may call me whatever you'd like." I smiled, picking her up. "Let's go to my home. You'll have to hold my hand, my child. There are traps and puzzles throughout the forest, but I will show you how to solve them." She held my hand and started to walk with me.
Now, I understand that taking someone's child home with you isn't a good plan. Especially when the parent finds out where their child has gone, but let's be honest here. What sort of parent would leave their child out in the middle of nowhere? It definitely wasn't a countryside child, because only a few people live out here. And if it's a girl from the kingdom, it's dangerous to be out alone when you aren't familiar with the terrain. No kingdom parent would leave their child out all alone. Everyone knows how dangerous it is. "Did you run away from home, my child?"
She sniffled. "No..."
"Then how did you get all the way out here?"
"Am I in trouble?"
"That depends on how truthfully you can tell me why you're out here all alone."
"I... Mama and Daddy and I were on the beach and we decided to enter the big woods. Well, Mama heard a noise and they left me in that bush to check it out. They haven't come back."
"Why were you and your family on the beach?"
"I don't remember."
"Hm... Do you remember what happened yesterday, my child?"
"No."
"Last night?"
"Uh-uh."
I figured that she and her family arrived on Skyrise earlier today and the parents died.
Just to prove my theory, I found a dead woman stabbed through the heart, pinned against a tree. It was obvious a monster had gotten her. She looked just like the little girl. The little girl, too, found her mother and began to cry. I picked her up and ran from the tree with her in my arms. I had to say something to comfort her. "My child, I'm so sorry! No child should ever have to see that. You're safe now. Do you have a name?"
"My name is... I-I don't know!!" She cried.
"Now, now, it's okay." She doesn't know her name? How odd... "How about I call you..." I examined the fish on her shirt. That's how Dawn does it, isn't it? "Dolphin?" I asked.
"Dolphin! I like!" She giggled. We walked along in silence until we had reached the mountaintop.
"Here we are." I set her down in front of my house on the mountain. "It isn't much, but nobody's lived with me in such a long time."
"Flowers!" She plopped down and picked at the wildflowers.
"Now, let's go inside first. I wanna show you your room."
"Okay!"
"Hold my hand, now. I don't want you getting lost."
----------------------------------------------I thought I'd try the whole authors note thing out. It couldn't hurt, right? So, here's a few little questions: How do you guys think this will work out? Do you guys think Songbird and Dolphin will stay together? What about Dragonfly's newfound ability? Make sure to tell me what you guys think in the comments!
