The knock on Remington's apartment door startled her. Sniffling and wiping her tear-filled eyes, she moved to the door and peeked through the peephole.
Daniel's familiar frame stood there, swaying back and forth gently with what Rem thought might be nerves. Sniffling again and doing her best to try and make herself look like she hadn't just been ugly-crying, she swung the door open. Daniel looked at her like he was surprised she'd appeared and for a moment she wasn't sure either of them were going to say anything.
"Rem-," he started, but she cut him off
"No. Don't say anything. Don't say anything at all. I'm a little... little drunk and I want you to be quiet. Get in here," she said slurring her words just slightly. She grabbed his arm and tugged him inside and then closed the door behind him and pointed to the couch. "Sit," she instructed, and he did so.
"Now. I just... just want you to hold me, okay? Don't make it mean anything, don't try to touch my boobs, just wrap those stupid pretty man arms around me and hold on tight, okay? Because I feel like shit and maybe my best friend and I's friendship is over and I just want someone to cuddle me and tell me everything is going to be okay. I maybe would have picked someone other than you, but you'll work." Remington rambled the instructions, and Daniel had to hold back a smirk.
"I can do that," he said, opening his arms. She slid inside of them and nestled her small frame against his chest. "You're gonna be okay, Rem. everything's gonna be okay," he whispered the words to her, twirling a strand of her long ginger hair around a finger. She sighed quietly, and he could hear her breathing slow when she eventually fell asleep in his arms.
