Last weekend at LA's VampCon, we were lucky enough to get to sit down and have a bit of a chat with none other that Elijah Mikaelson himself, Daniel Gillies! We asked him about everything from inside secrets from set to his rumored hot and heavy romance with cast mate Remy Somerhalder. Read on to find out what he had to say!
VC: So, we've heard that you and your cast mates have been revealing little snippets of the upcoming season of your show, The Originals, around the con in Q&As this weekend. Is there anything you can tell us?
Gillies: Well, I can say that we're going to be exploring my character, Elijah's, own personal life a lot more. For so long it's been about the family and what the family as a whole needed. This next season we're more into exploring what the individuals in the family need.
VC: Interesting. So does that mean we're going to be seeing more of Elijah's relationship with Remy Somerhalder's character, Leila?
Gillies: Definitely. I think their relationship, while still prominent, got put on a bit of a back burner last season with everything else that happened. Coming up, we're definitely going to be exploring their history together and why it's so damn hard for them to get it together. You know, they've been very back and forth with their relationship, very 'I love you, I hate you', and we're going to be exploring why and maybe even seeing if they can try and make it work for real.
VC: It's funny that you mention the 'love you, hate you' thing... we've got to ask the thing that's been burning on everyone's minds... are you and Remy Somerhalder a thing or is that just something the Internet got ahold of and ran with?
Gillies: Remy and I are... complicated. I'm not sure what she'd say on the topic actually, but I can say that I do love her very much. We've explored some options as far as a relationship goes, but for right now we can't seem to settle on something that works.
