Daniel knocked on Ian's door urgently, praying someone was going to answer. He knew Ian's wife Nikki was out of town on a movie shoot, and he was pretty sure he'd seen Ian leaving too. His hope was that Remy was there on some off chance. He'd been to her apartment first, knocked for a long time, and had gotten no answer.

"Remington, please. Please talk to me," he pleaded, pushing his ear up to the door. It swung open a moment later, almost knocking him off his feet.

"Go away." Rem's voice was hoarse and it was clear just by looking at her that she had in fact been crying.

"Please talk to me," Daniel whispered, taking a step over the threshold of the doorway.

"Please go away," Rem responded, trying to shut the door. Daniel stepped through the rest of the way, stopping her. She rolled her eyes and walked away from him. He followed her into the living room and sat across from her in a fluffy armchair.

"Rem, please. You have to let me explain," he said, and she rolled her eyes at him again.

"Again, you've been saying that and nothing else. You have literally five minutes to talk and convince me before I kick you the fuck out," she said, her voice quiet but her tone lethal.

"It wasn't... nothing was happening between Sabrina and I. Nothing. I only got ahold of her because I thought she might be able to help me get you back. The other day in my trailer was literally the first time I'd ever met her. She was only trying to help. I don't know what her motives were with selling the story to the press originally, but this time she really was just trying to help because she can see how much I love you, and she says you love me too," Daniel rambled the explanation and Remy stared at him, her expression cold.

"I don't believe you," she said pointedly, shaking her head. "Sabrina doesn't care about helping me. We'd been friends for a long time, Daniel. A long time, and not once did she actually go out of her way to help me with something. She only ever thinks about herself, and her only motive with seeing you was to get in your pants. I promise."

"Well, you know what? Maybe that was her motive. I haven't the foggiest clue whether it was or not. She told me it wasn't, and I chose to believe her but maybe I was wrong. But none of that is the point, Rem. The point is that my intentions were nothing but pure. I figured since no one else was responding to my messages about getting you back, maybe she'd be able to help. That's all I ever wanted, Rem. Just you," his voice rose slightly and he was sounding a little frantic.

"I believe you. I do. But I don't know, Daniel. Part of me feels like maybe we're not the best idea right now." Remington's voice softened and her eyes filled with tears.

"I think we're a great idea, Rem. I've known since the second I met you on the Vampire Diaries set that there was something special about you, something I wanted to know. Then when all that shit went down with the two of us and Paul and everything else, I knew it wasn't the time. I knew it had to wait. But now? Now we're working together again. Now we're happy. Now we're both single. Now I love you. So why not?" he asked, moving to where she was on the couch and sitting beside her. "Why not?"

"I... I'm scared, okay? I'm terrified. The thought of loving you scares the shit out of me. I don't do well with relationships. I think too much into things and get my mind all twisted and then end up being crazy about nothing. I know I've pretty much pushed you away from the start, sometimes without good reason. I know I've been shitty, but I'm so scared. I don't want to lose you over something stupid like I did Paul and every other relationship I've ever been in. The thought of losing you scares me so much. You're too... too important," she said, her last few words stifled by a sob.

Daniel opened his arms and she nestled into them quickly.

"I love you," he whispered into her hair, holding her tightly.

"I love you too," she replied, her voice still hoarse and quiet.

"We can do this. We can. I know neither of us are great at it, but we can make it work. You don't need to be scared. I'm not going to let you go over something silly. I promise. Don't be scared and just let us give it a shot," Daniel whispered, and Remy nodded slowly.

"Okay," she said quietly, pulling out of his arms just enough to look him in the eye.

"Okay?" he asked, smiling at her. She nodded and pressed her lips into his, feeling his smile at the gesture.
