I sat there in class, impatiently counting the hours left in the day. Every tick of the clock seemed to move slower and slower. I was soon caught up in a trance, staring off in the distance.
I hated college, but I loved learning- if that makes any sense to you. But what I really loved was music. I loved singing and playing guitar- just not in front of people. That's always scared me.
I came back to reality when someone tapped me on the shoulder.
"May I borrow a pencil?" A guy with auburn hair asked me.
"Um, sure," I replied as I handed him a pencil.
"Thanks."
"No problem."
I thought the conversation was over. But apparently not.
"So, what's your name?" He started again.
"I'm Louisa. And you are?"
"John. John Baldwin."
He stuck out his hand and gave me a firm handshake. By then, I'd thought the conversation would finally be over. I hated small talk. But he continued.
"Y'know, I've seen you around here, and I've never gotten a chance to talk to you."
"You're talking to me now."
"Quite right. I just wanted to ask you something."
"Ask away."
"Would you like to join me for dinner tonight, my treat?"
"Excuse me?"
"Well, would you?"
"But we've just met."
"I know, but this is how people get to know each other better."
"I'm sorry, I can't."
I turn back around to face the front of the classroom. This guy just really asked me out. Sure, he was cute. But I had my eyes set in someone else, and his name was Jimmy Page.
---
I went to my locker to grab my books. I caught a glimpse of Jimmy getting a drink at the water fountain. Goodness, he was attractive. I've had the biggest crush on him since the beginning of my first semester and it's been two years. He's never noticed me- until now.
He came strutting over, a confident smile on his face. He set his books on a table next to me and leaned in close to my face. I stood there silent, not knowing what to do.
He put one hand on the locker and the other on my face, gently playing with my hair.
"So, your name's Louisa, right?"
My face turned red, so I quickly turned away and nodded.
"No, let me see that beautiful face," he said, softly turning my head. Our noses touched and I felt a shiver down my spine.
He kissed me gently but passionately on the lips. What was happening? And why? Was it a dare or something.
He pulled away a second and our eyes met. He had such beautiful green eyes.
But our little episode was quickly interrupted by a yell across the hall.
"PAGE," a familiar voice screamed.
I turned and looked, only to seen John running toward us, a look of rage upon his face.
He came over quickly and started throwing punches, yelling out curses and saying,"you knew I liked her, why would you do this to me?"
I stood there astonished, not knowing what to do. Other kids huddled around to watch the fight- until the administrator came in and tore them from each other's grasp.
"You boys just bought yourselves a detention. My office, now."
They left in silence and surprisingly, there was no retaliation. I walked into my next class early to think about what had just happened. Were two guys really fighting over me?
