When all my classes were finally over, I made my way up to the administrator's office. I wanted to know what was happening.

"Excuse me," I said walking up to his desk,"do you think you could tell me about those two boys fighting in the hall earlier today?"

"Oh, yes. John Baldwin and James Page. Since apparently they were fighting over you, I'd like you to join me in the office while I question them."

My eyes widened. I didn't want to be a part of this. But even though I kind of was a part of it, I didn't want to get more involved.

"And I don't believe we've met," he said, sticking out his hand," I'm Mr. Darty."

"I'm Louisa," I answered back, shaking his hand.

He led me into the room. John and Jimmy were sitting next to each other, staring in opposite directions. I cleared my throat to get their attention and in unison they both turned back and said,"Louisa?" and then looked back at each other angrily.

"Boys, I don't not want you two fighting again," Mr. Darty began," so I want you both to talk to this girl and get things straightened out. Do you understand?"

They both nodded.

He left us all in the room alone. I pulled up a chair and sat across from both of them.

"So what's with this whole thing?" I asked, but neither would even look at me.

"Please answer. I haven't got all day. I'd like to go home."

"Ok," John started," I don't think I'd want to talk about it to you. I'd just like to show you."

He leaned in and gently kissed me on the cheek. Jimmy scoffed and turned the other way and said with much sarcasm,"how romantic. A kiss on the cheek. I can't believe I'm getting in trouble for all this. It's all your fault, John. You overreacted."

"But you knew I liked her, and for quite a while. Why do you steal everyone's girls?"

I sat there in silence as they screamed and yelled at each other. There was nothing I could say or do to make them stop, so I just let them go until their anger fizzled out.

After about ten minutes, Mr. Darty came back in and told me I could leave. "I don't think that helped," I said as he walked me outside the door.

"That's okay, Miss Louisa. Boys are like whining babies when it comes to girls. That only changes when they become men."

"I sure hope that's soon."

I walked outside to my car, still a bit amazed by all the drama that had happened today. It seemed like it was worse than girl drama. No, I'm pretty sure they were just acting like girls. If one of my friends kissed a guy I liked, I don't think I'd react that badly. Sure, I would react. But it would be over quickly.

The next day when I walked into class, John was there. But he continued looking down, even when I grabbed the seat next to him.

"Are you okay?" I asked, putting my hand on his shoulder.

"Not really."

"Did I do something wrong?"

"No, it's just Jimmy. He and I were best buds. But then he went off and pulled a jerk move like that on you."

"I'm sorry."

"Don't be. It's not your fault."

"But I feel bad. Is there any way I could make this up to you?"

"Well, actually, I need help studying. I'm not doing so well in this class."

"Great, because science is one of my strong points. When should I be over?"

"How about seven?"

"Sounds good. See you then!"
